Your 8 year olds are 4’6 and 4’8 and are the shortest in their class?! Those are really tall heights for 8 year olds. Like 90+ percentile.

I am 5’3” and I am still shorter than most of my friends, but a lot of them are 5’4” or 5’5” so I feel pretty average. My brother is 5’9”, my dad is 5’8” and mom 5’4” so we are all pretty average.

DH is 6’2” and our 3 kids are: DD(11) 65%, DD(9) 50% and DS(6) 85%. Not sure their heights will stay constant, but both DH and I were late bloomers so I think they might increase their % a bit as adults.

5'3 is short. Nobody in your family is average, they're all short.

5'4" is the average height for women in the US.

I'm short and my husband is short and our twins are short. My height is 4'11, my husband is 5'3 and the twins are 4'6 and 4'8. They are the shortest in their class. So we know they aren't going to be giants. They are only 8 so hopefully they will still grow..

I've always been short. I'm just under 5'0". We adopted my son and his birth mother is my size. We don't know anything about the birth father. My son is one of the smallest in his class. He is only 7. I guess we will see how it plays out.

For girls - once you start your period, you may not grow much. DD had taller friends younger but then she hit our growth spurt and now same height as them. They were all about 1 yr older than her and did not grow more than that. On the flip side, she has friends a bit younger than her shorter but now are growing taller than her after she got her period.

She is 5 foot 3, I am 5 foot 2. I highly doubt she will be any taller than 5 foot 4 and strongly suspect she will be 5 foot 3 or 5 foot 3 1/2. She is almost age 13.

I think a lot depends on when you get your period. If you don't get it until 14 or 15, age 12 or 13 is not going to impact your height but if you got your period at 12, you're pretty much done by 14.

I don’t think it works that way. Most will have a growth spurt before their period whether they are 11 or 14. After their period begins girls usually grow another inch or two. Late bloomers just catch up, they don’t spend more years having growth spurts.

Not quite. That’s true, but late bloomers also have an extra few years of steady growth before the puberty growth spurt. Keeping within the bounds of a kid’s genetic height potential, blooming later gives more overall years of growth. They say that also contributes to why boys are taller than girls after puberty.

Yes. I was born at 20 inches but by my first birthday, my growth slowed down (my mom kept a very detailed baby book). In school, when we lined up by height for photos, I was always the last in line. I’m 5’0”.

The funny thing is that my daughter was also born at 20 inches and she’s 95th percentile for height. My husband is quite tall.

Yes. I (female) was always in the very lowest (like 3-5%) and ended up 5’1”.
