I have visited most of the major state universities. The one most like Michigan is Wisconsin. The one most like Wisconsin is Michigan. I could see choosing either one. I chose Michigan, partly because of prestige/rankings and particly because Michigan does a better job of creating small communities within a larger university. For example, there is no equivalent to the Michigan Residential College (which is sort of like a small liberal arts college) at Wisconsin.
Agree. And next closest to each is IU.

Endowment sizes:
Florida has about $2.4 B
Michigan has about $17.3 B
Yet they are next to each other in the rankings. Why should we care about Michigan's endowment?

I think there is a strong argument that for public universities, budget support by the state is more important than endowment size.

Some high level kids who got shut out of Ivys and other top schools end up going to Michigan and are very happy there.
Wisconsin is easier to get into and you see more mid tier kids going there.
Are you 15? In addition to this being immature and mean, the OOS acceptance rate for Madison is about 20%. That’s not an acceptance rate for average students.
