+1 Koreans are second class citizens there, even the ones who are descendants of the Koreans who were forced to go to Japan during the colonial period as slave labor.

There's no way I'd live in Japan as a Korean American.

My friend is a psychiatrist in Japan and they absolutely prescribe medication for ADHD.

People hate on the US but we’re one of the few truly diverse countries on the planet. There are lots of inherrent challenges that go along with that.

First of all, Japanese culture is wayyyyyy different than American. Like 180. Even among Asian cultures, Japanese traditions/culture is like 10000% conservative/anal/traditional/et al. I am Chinese and I could not handle it. An American would have a very very rough time there.

That being said, if you are OK with how different their lifestyles are, it's 100000% a nicer lifestyle than American in the context of comfort/safety/health and every other way. Keep in mind at World Cup last year the Japanese stayed post game to CLEAN The stadium. Can you imagine Americans or any other country doing this???? They are high end, uber respectful and a very structured society. They have their problems as every nation/society does but you have to understand that culturally, they differ from American easy laid back independence is all attitude. So if you don't like the American way, you may love Japanese way for sure. You may also not like it at all however - just understand what you are going to find.

And that being said, depending on your profession, your involvement with society I guess, you could have a different perspective. So if you work in corporate that is going to look different than teaching English to kids. They are my favorite people to socialize with, exchange gifts with, trust and do business with. Living there is different. It will make you a "better" person in the sense that it is very driven by respect. All Asian cultures share this but really I'd say any culture EXCEPT US. Europeans, Latins, Asians, Jewish culture, etc have a familial code of respecting elders for example. The biggest issues with US and I think why so many are unhappy here (incl me) is this lack of respect for others. It's all about freedom, independence and entitlement. Nobody can tell me what to do! Nobody can tell me how to live! Etc. Et Al. That's what contributes to our capitalism, our violence, all of it. Our education structure, political structure, culture structure, all of it is going down because everyone wants it their way.

In Japan, that's not how they live. Now they do have issues and let me tell you, if you think working in the US is hard....the hours Japanese will work in corporate will kill you
