Exactly. I do think Arlington Tech will fill when the campus is complete. If not immediately, within two or three years after it’s finished. However, I do hope the program will be open to all students, even English language learners. Ideally the program would attract a diverse cross section of the Arlington demographic and not become another HB.

Which is pretty evenly split among the comprehensive HSs. It’s my understanding that kids who are 100+ on the waitlist routinely get into AT. So is there demand for 1500 seats?
Not right now. But when people see the amazing labs, brand new facilities, and National merit finalists they will be banging at the door, even if it means they have to give up sports.
W-L also got brand new facilities with the Ed Center renovation—the whole interior was gutted and rebuilt. Students will choose Arlington Tech based on their interests and if they feel the program is the right fit.
So we will never reach 1000 then.
People are fighting to get into HB Woodlawn for reasons I will never understand, so I could see a path where Arlington Tech develops a similar mystique.
Unlikely. A big part of why people want HB is because it’s small (& “exclusive”).

The mystique is a 400 student high school in their own facility more or less. Striver is 20 kids.
AT is 400 now, yes, but in faculty shared with 100 car mechanic and hvac students in a less desirable location.
At 1500, AT is too big for “mystique” and still shares campus with a sizeable second school.
And people here forget that the Career Center campus will still bus in students from four comprehensive high schools (W-L, Wake, Ytn, Meridian) and H-B to it’s campus for courses throughout the day. So many more students will benefit from the new state-of-the-art campus than is assumed.

I can’t quite tell if this is sarcasm. But they don’t have to give up sports anyway; they can play with their home school.
What percentage do that from HB to WL which are much closer? I know a lot of students who transfer back for sports. Being on a team is more than just making practices and games; they hang out together in school too. Plus it’s a long bus ride and disruptive — most people will chose or the other.
I'm an HB parent. I don't know the percentage of HB kids who play on a sports team at their home school, but I know that some do it. And there are also kids who leave HB because they want to be with their sports team friends all day, or they want a more traditional high school experience, or they want more class selection, or they didn't find their social group at HB (it's a small school). I don't get the comment about the long bus ride and disruptive. If their bus ride to their home school for sports is long, their regular bus ride home would be too, so what's the difference?
