What OP really needs to do is see what type of properties within his price range are available on a real estate site like Redfin or Zillow. If he's asking about Oakton, Madison and McLean, he's already got some idea of the demographics and/or school ratings.


Agree that budget will likely be the deciding factor here. But wanted to point out that Woodson and Chantilly have higher percentages of Asians than these three schools. Marshall has more than Madison but less than Oakton and McLean.


This is one reason why the board should really consider how many people actually act.
Everyone on this thread sees it as entirely normal and acceptable, even good in 2023 America to help someone pick a school with race as a major factor.

Good idea, but you knew that.

I would advise you to simply avoid the overcrowded schools and you will be fine.

I understand what PP is saying. Traffic in the Fairfax City area is really annoying. It’s just very congested in that whole Fairfax City/Merrifeld/Annandale area. I work near there and live where PP lives. It’s much easier to get around in the evenings and on weekends. That really matters when your kids are school aged.

because they are in Fairfax City which requires that all students who are residents go to Fairfax. FCPS has no control over that.

Getting to/from Woodson HS by car took 25 min from where we were by Wegmans and had to travel through Fairfax city. (literally across the street from us was Fairfax HS boundary) although we are closer to Chantilly HS getting to Oakton HS (which by miles is farther than my old home was to Woodson HS) won’t take nearly as long as it took us to get to Woodson.

OP here. 40% or 20% Asian does not matter too much to us. As long as the community is relatively diversified(both socioeconomic status and culture), we will be comfortable about it.
