A much earlier poster on this thread described how she has anxiety around being in public and it's a much better time out for her if her DH orders for her. She tells him what she wants. Some people do fine getting out but don't do well interacting with strangers like waiters etc. So please don't assume that because "they managed to make it to the restaurant with a date just fine," they are "just fine" to order as well. Whatever works for those folks, works, and that's not something to judge.

That's some of it.

And sometimes we are at a place where we have been a million times before and I have ordered the exact same thing.

And sometimes, I just want to eat something and want someone to choose so I don't have to. It is equally helpful if my kids pick for me. Or my sister.

Never seen it done in my 25-year 'career' as a waiter. Not talking about the woman being in the bathroom or busy somehow.
Would have probably seen it on her face like 'wth'!

Like for me like picking what I should eat himself? Heck no, but if I tell him I want the steak and a while later the server comes and he's like "She will have the steak well done," that's fine.

The other weird scenario Ive been in is when someone just expects you to pay for the group or pays for the group and doesn't discuss it it's one thing to offer. Another to demand or just wait for someone else to pay.
