Replacing a working and very expensive range with another new very expensive range neither saves money nor reduces your carbon footprint. Instead it wastes money and increases your carbon footprint.
Do whatever makes you happy just don't pretend that it some sort of virtuous thing you're doing.

The range is 17 years old, so it’s at the end of its lifespan. We purchased it three years used from a neighbor who was doing a remodel, so yeah, I feel fine about it.
She wasn't talking about 17 year old ranges that you will have to replace with something anyway. She is talking about people taking out their perfectly good, working gas ranges and replacing them with new, trendy induction ranges to virtue signal how good they are. It's silly and I totally agree that it does nothing for your carbon footprint to add more to the landfill. Or are you planning on "donating" it to the poors?

NP. I grew up in a South Asian country where people cooked on coal fires and gas stoves. Millions and billions of people still use gas to cook. There are no mass deaths due to this practice. Sorry you chose to believe nonsense.

Gas is so much cheaper where I live. We pay the highest tier for electricity and it’s just going up despite getting solar panels ten years ago. I open the windows every time I use the stove. We also have a gas furnace and laundry appliances. If the electricity goes out, we can still run the important appliances because of our solar batteries but would run out faster if everything was electric.

Glad I don't live in Chicago. I also live somewhere they will never be banned. We have gas indoors and 2 of our outdoor grills and cooktops are gas. As is our hot tub and pool.

I couldn’t find the 100,000 BTU Viking posted upthread. This summer we’re planning to get one of those wok burner setups that can cook like a restaurant but we will have to keep it outdoors.

You can argue with the data bc it’s junk science. If your fireplace is ok bc it’s vented, your gas stove is ok bc it’s vented too. Buy a bigger vent fan if you’re concerned.

Our gas fp is fully enclosed, so it is enclosed and vented. Our gas stove and oven are not enclosed, obviously. So it’s not the same thing. Also I use the stove daily and I use the gas fp no more than 10 times over the winter.
Another reason why I am good with the switch to induction is that we have solar, so we will spend less on gas and negligible increase in electricity.
People had the same reaction in my town when wood burning fp’s were no longer allowed in new construction. It’s a no brainer that burning fuel in your home is a fire hazard and causes indoor pollution whether it’s wood or natural gas.

Oooh you just gave me flashbacks. Swapped out our gas (which I loved the cooktop but not the oven) for induction. OK I did not love cleaning either. Lifting the heavy grates then taking the caps off the burny parts. Also stuff burned on even though I'm tidy and the cleaner cleaned it. Induction is Nice easy surface to clean.
