Congratulations! If she applied as TO, there’s no need to list her scores.
I appreciate seeing scores, decisions re submitting them & outcomes. Congrats

I feel sorry for so many hard-working, capable, and deserving students. It sounds like it’s basically a lottery drawing from thousands of qualified candidates.
It very much is a lottery now. No explanation for anything.
It is frustrating that it is so hard to predict. It seems like their short-answer questions are really make a difference in the decision since that's the only thing they look at beyond transcript and test scores if submitted. They don't even look at teacher recs or the common app essay.
How do you know this?

What were her extracurriculars?

DD accepted. TO, 3.97 GPA. Business. IB and AP courses.
I don’t think she thought she’d get in. Was accepted at JMU, I think she feels conflicted. Wants to be closer to home. Any advice??
DS got into both last year and chose JMU with no hesitation. It felt like home to him and he's had a great year so far, academically and socially. I'd suggest you attend both admitted student days if you can.

What is Virginia Tech's history of selecting students from the waitlist?
Last year, we were able to offer 2,458 applicants from the waitlist. In 2021, we were able to offer 3,286 applicants from the waitlist. In 2020, we were able to offer 3,961 applicants from the waitlist. In 2019, we were unable to make any offers. In 2018, we were able to offer 1,896 applicants from our waitlist. In 2017, we were unable to make any offers. As you can see, the number of students ultimately receiving offers from the waitlist is highly unpredictable and variable.
This makes it sound like most years VaTech ultimately offered admission to hundreds/thousands of students on the waitlist? That seems much higher than most schools? Below is the information from the 2020-21 Common Data Set. Combined with the information on the website above, does this establish that 3,286 of 4,924 were offered admission but only 86 accepted (presumably because by July most had made other plans)? Am I missing something?
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on the waiting list: 8,690
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 4924
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 86
No. I read it that 8690 applicants were notified they were put on the waitlist. Of those 8000+ students, 4924 decided they wanted to go on the waitlist. The other almost 4000 applicants decided to not be put on the waitlist. Only 86 were ultimately offered a spot. How many enrolled is unknown.

TECH all the way! It has better nationwide recognition an more options. And, come on...hokie nation!! Enter Sandman...
I can honestly say this because I went to Tech as an undergrad and then got a stipend to go to JMU for grad school and transferred out after a year. Not a fan. I have a nephew who is a senior at JMU now and it is such a party school now, insanely so. He can't wait until graduation. He's done.
From this area, there are so many kids to ride home with and always a carpool seat available.

So, would you DC have chosen VT? Unlikely, especially if in state MD. Thus the deferral.
We live in VA..

I think it is much harder to get into the engineering programs and that really skews the numbers.
