Sure most TJ kids who are in the top 25% or so of the class will aim for Harvard, MIT, Duke, etc. but UVA ends up being a great value for TJ kids. Maybe some of the disappointment comes from a belief that the kids who end up at UVA could've have gotten the same outcome with much less stress and rigor, but TJ is about the experience not just the college admissions

Sidwell, across the board, does NOT get “better results” at all! TJ is no 1 in the US for Technology for a reason!

The typical TJ student would have better college admission results if they stayed at their base school.

How could you ever possibly prove this?

Compare the number of Ivy admits from TJ vs the rest of the state's high schools.

I agree with this comment. My kid graduated from TJ last year with high stats but is attending an out of state university (with very high costs) because of rejection at UVA and wait list at VT. Many TJ kids go out of state for college.

UVA and William and Mary are safeties for most TJ students except for the bottom 30%.

My son from non TJ FCPS was also deferred. Kids were accepted from his school with lower stats.

This was the exact result for my high-stats DC last year except DC didn't apply to Purdue. Those were all EA acceptances. But didn't get into anything else in RD round.

Love it. It is considered fortunate to get into UVA from TJ. I’m sure plenty of parents shooting for Ivy League are disappointed if their kids end up at UVA. But it is not a safety. And the one who have that option consider themselves lucky to have it.
