The more people who are in on it, the easier it is to cover-up… kinda like Hollywood — everyone knew, yet no one really wanted to be the bad guy and go to the cops. You are the naive one if you think sex abuse of young boys by one teacher can be a secret for a long 15 years. Adults at the school heard rumors and had a clear legal obligation to report. They decided not to report, maybe because the perpetrator’s father was on the school board. Maybe because no one wanted to be the bad guy and get fired. So much to unpack here.
But we do know that children were horrifically harmed for life. It’s often like having serious PTSD. It doesn’t go away, but hopefully, you just learn to somehow cope with the nightmares. Anyone who was sexually abused knows the horror.

All it takes is one parent to report to detectives that they had asked a school employee if they heard about the kids getting booze from Chris. It’s already happened. At that instant school was legally required to contact police.

That isn’t true, there have been plenty of recent cases at area public schools. The bottom line is schools, camps, and youth sports are very attractive to pedaphiles and if they have no criminal history, they will still be hired.
I'm not saying it NEVER happens at publics. But you're kidding yourself if you don't think wealth, power, and privilege play a roll in how private schools deal with these kinds of allegations. A lot of turning a blind eye. Look at the St Paul's School in NH as an example. The Groton School in CT. Key School here in MD.

I think all the private school in the area create a culture where students have close relationships with their advisors and teachers. I have always thought that to be a great thing. most teachers are not pedophiles. teach your kids what’s appropriate and what’s not.

+1000. People want to pretend that Gilman was uniquely neglectful and there was some grand coverup. That’s because it’s too scary for them to admit that it can happen anywhere, and that the fact that your kids are at a different school won’t protect them. It’s a terrifying thought, so people must find a way for the school to have been at fault.
