Kids in MCPS go to school because they are hangout clubs where they can do whatever they want these days with impunity. Kids passed out drunk in BCC is a common occurrence to all of the widespread and out of control drug use in MC public high schools. Everyone already knows the problems are so bad in Moco schools that they have to now completely lock the bathrooms in schools to prevent all of the drug use. Scores continue to decline, discipline is zero, and there is never any accountability. Why does anyone pay taxes for these craptacular results? If all we are paying for are spaces where idiot kids can behave like lord of the flies, time to cut spending to the bone and give tax payers their money back. All of that billions is sure as hell not be used for learning. MCPS continue to go down the tubes.

This 100% correct.

So move just move. Leave MCPS move to Alabama, MO, Mississippi, Arkansaw is a great place with Sarah Sanders grooming kids, or how about South Dakota, or Oklahoma, or Floridumb..

Seriously move.

I agree move, we did, it's lovely. The children behave, the teachers are happy and oh, to the amazement of all, the children are actually learning and being educated. MCPS decline was not swift, but it was inevitable given the direction of politics in the region. Couldn't be happier with our family decision. I agree, move.

Now just think, if you put as much effort into your kids as you do posting about MCPS when you have no direct experience right now, they could be doing much better.

I’m not PP, but we opted out of MCPS too. If you all can come onto the private school forum and tell us how entitled our kids will be and how it’s no better than public school, then don’t be upset when we come over here and ask why you’re still in a district with almost daily issues with kids bringing guns in, passing out drunk in the bathroom, and posting abysmally low MCAP scores.

If your private has the same population you’d see the same issues. Instead you have the same drugs and other things but they are just more quiet. And, privates hold back the kids so they look smarter than they are. Academics are not as advanced in math which is an issue for real smart kids. Not just kids of rich parents.

And I guarantee if they took that silly MCAP test their scores would be about the same. I also noticed the nationally recognized tests that MCPS uses like MAP show scores well above the national average for every grade. Don't where they state got MCAP but they should put it back where they found it because it seems to be broken.

Keep deluding yourself. I’m sure that’ll do wonders for your kids.

My kids are doing amazing, thank you. Here's the thing that you don't seem to understand. The random incidents that you hear on the news, don't impact majority of MCPS students. My kids are high-performing HS athletes with high test scores, take AP and IB classes, and have high GPAs (and you would turn up your nose if I told you what school). I'm not saying this as a brag but to tell you that there are TONS of kids in MCPS who are on the same boat. A lot of kids like mine aren't snowflakes and can handle going to schools with a population of 2000+ and have a few students who from time to time do sh*tty things. They can handle it. We're good so you don't have to worry about us. Glad private school is working out for you.

Yeah, they can handle kids bringing in guns and passing out drunk. NBD.

Yes, they are reasonable people who understand that from time to time, someone will do something stupid and bring a weapon to school or show up drunk. They understand that while these things occur rarely, it is not the norm. They move on and focus on school or sports or whatever they have going on. Get it? That's how most reasonable people are. By the way, I went to a private school and the kids were notorious for getting drunk and getting high.

You are remarkably blasé about your kids going to schools where bringing a weapon in is some to just deal with. In a world of school shootings, one would think parents would be more concerned.

Would love to see fewer guns out there, but this is 'Merica. We have more guns than people, and the gun-rights zealots plan to keep it that way - one way or another.

I feel the same. Maybe it's just making the best of the hand your dealt, but I also don't feel that private would've been an improvement. Both have been in various special programs since early on. Maybe we're just lucky but this has given them a strong education.

You'd have to compare kids to kids equal but, they would be the same or possibly higher. You cannot compare a private that is selective on who they accept and anyone struggling gets kicked out to a public.

Define “struggling.” Or are you the person who has been claiming that kids constantly get counseled out of private schools?

You think kids who stubble behaviorally or academic stay at those better privates. No, they don’t get their contract renewed or kicked out to transfer to another.

Oh yeah — that’s why there are so many spots available in non-expansion grades. It’s from all the kids getting kicked out.

Oh wait. There are virtually none. Oops!

MCPS should have some kind of response protocol for unresponsive parents. If a child has disciplinary issues and parents fail to engage with teachers or admin, the kid should be moved to an alternative school. I think that's what this place is for?

Or call CPS - there is such as thing as educational neglect (and frankly that behavior indicates other problems.

Struggle

Unless they play sports. And then they stay no matter what they do.
