When our DD was at a private she became friends with parents we discovered were low key billionaires. (They took her on vacation.). Heirs to an extremely large fortune but lived in an attached small row home. Really cool people who flew far under the radar of the folks in development. Was quite amusing actually. In a million years you would’ve never guessed.

I think of love bracelets as a pretty classic staple, just like any other gold bangle. Mine belonged to my mom and I wear it with my timex.

I'm a mom with NO style, and I don't really care either. If you want to roll with your Cartier bracelets, I am totally okay with it as long as you don't judge me for my basic, thrifty apparel. This crowd is not going to be happy with you. VC and A and Cartier are worn for the purpose of the wearer saying "I can afford to spend 5 figures on my casual jewelry."


I wear VC&A and it certainly isn’t to send a message to anyone. It makes you sound terribly insecure that you assume as much. That’s the only reason you’d ever buy expensive jewelry? To broadcast to me that you can?


DP: I think PP's is responding to those who cannot seem to comprehend that many of us don't pay attention to fashion, don't know these brand names, and wouldn't know if what you were wearing came from Target or Tiffany's. That's not insecurity, it is lack of interest. Fashion isn't everyone's hobby. So the PPs (contrary to OP) are saying to those who expect everyone to recognize the pieces as OP does, we don't recognize it. That's all.

What are you talking about? I have nice jewelry from my family and I wear them all the time. Not all of us grew up in a trailer in West Virginia and buy things to impress neighbors.

You are calling it “stunning” because you think you have to like what your friends like. The truth is that’s it’s mass produced, rather boring and not very pretty. It’s made for people who are followers and not at all original.


I think PP is entitled to her opinion that it’s stunning, and you are entitled to your opinion that it’s not. But please acknowledge that it’s just that - opinions - and you have no idea how “original” a person is simply because her whose view differs.

I'm talking about people who look down on those for not dressing up. I like to dress up too and like you have, family pieces. But I don't judge those who don't have the latest chanel purse, etc. just as I don't judge those who want wear the latest of everything all at once

I'm in Europe now and everyone wears stacked cartier bracelets, with at least one love. It's not overdressed, it's just fashion. I'm not seeing a lot of VCA but a ton of Hermes, especially collier de chien.

I spend a relative lot on my appearance, but cannot imagine wearing any of this. It seems very “middle school”. I buy what suits me and what I deem “well designed”.
