So for FoxConn Walker promised to give $3 billion in tax credits to FoxConn. Here the state has spent $200 million to attract business to a site and when it does the governor says no, I don’t like that it’s Chinese business because I’d rather have a political talking point than thousands of good paying jobs.

So the only difference is amount of the subsidy? How does that make it better? $200 million is still a lot of money.

Any modern auto factory is going to require a bidding war because there are great paying factory jobs at the plant as well as all of the ancillary jobs created by the presence of a plant.

Virginia is a right-to-work state so regardless of concerns, neither a Democrat nor a Republican governor would use unions as a justification to thwart economic development.

I would think that the Governor is more concerned about the state giving generous economic development incentives that they offer for the profit of a Chinese company. There are some foreign companies, like BMW, that Virginia is comfortable providing incentives to locate in the state and there are others that they would not be comfortable using tax money to support. Not providing Virginia taxpayer money to a Chinese company is I think is a fair viewpoint. Not allowing a Chinese company to gain a foothold in a sourcing and processing minerals to take advantage of an EV tax credit that is designed to spur US industries is also a fair viewpoint.
