I would trick out my modest 1930s house - make it super deluxe with finishes and upgrades I've dreamed of and have it beautifully decorated. Our dungeon of a basement will become a gym and home theatre. Marble baths and amazing chefs kitchen. Gorgeous floors and fixtures - the radiators will finally have covers - you know - the works. Also, I'd landscape the yard/outdoor space using a top landscape architect that only does big houses- no worries about overdoing it - who cares. That big stone fireplace and patio will look amazing back where the grass refuses to grow. Doing this would give me way more satisfaction than a big new house. I love our neighbors and neighborhood and now I won't be embarrassed to host because our stove only has one burner that works and Ill be able to enjoy it every day.

Establish free clinics all over the world for pet spay and neuter. Low cost vet care clinics everywhere.

Also buy an apartment in Paris.

Echo hiring attorney and financial advisor right off the bat. Invest and save one third. Set up trusts for kids and nephew. Quietly give low six figures amount to a couple of worthy family members who could use the life boost. Donate in actionable, meaningful way to a few charities.

Then to the lux stuff: hire cleaning service, fitness coach, chef, and house manager/assistant to help with life admin. Upgrade clothing and furniture. Buy art. Buy new house and cars. Buy 3-bedroom condos in NYC and Paris, buy ski chalet in Dolomites, buy bungalow somewhere tropical. Get manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages every week. Lots of travel of course.

On vacation with family right now and we pooled our money.

First order of business is to hire a trust/estates lawyer and pledge the ticket to a trust and assignee a trustee. That will shield our identities from the public.

We can then make decisions after that. I’d probably quit my job on Monday and then just chill out for a year before making any big purchases.

I’m a fan of taking the annuity, as that can give us flexibility with timing the tax bill.

I love this game! After hiring a financial advisor and likely a lawyer, I’d resign (teacher so best to do it before school starts).
Short term:
Pay off the house and hire a contractor for some projects. Probably move to a rental during construction, we’re too rich to be inconvenienced by construction mess now!
Buy a couple of beach houses, thinking one local and one in a more tropical location.
Set up college funds for a couple of friend’s children.
Pay mom to retire and move her to wherever she wanted to be.
Take my teen and their friends to Harry Styles in nyc. (yeah, that’s an extravagance on a teacher’s salary)
Extravagant vacations for Christmas and Spring breaks.
Tip people like mad!

I would find a coastal road. And search for the best gap in the guardrail. Then turn about and punch the clutch till I hit redline. Send me and the tin can airborne preferably at sunset.
