Wow, my dc is interested in Northwestern. We thought it would definitely be easier than UPenn. Any ties to Penn like legacy?
No. No ties to any of the schools.
This just goes to demonstrate that at the "top schools" it really is a crap shoot. With admission rates under 10%, it's a matter of your major, where you are from, and who reads your application and it grabs their attention.
You need a hook and good advising on applying. If you look at the NCAA lacrosse championship this year, it appeared to be dominated by Ivy schools. Lacrosse is a hook for upper middle, wealthy families for admission. Those kids are pretty good athletes, but put them in football or basketball and they are crushed by better athletes.

Ridiculous. Good for you getting into better schools. Virginia schools are so frustrating.
You clearly don't know how well Virginia schools are doing and how difficult it is to get in. UVA is the no 1 public for producer of Rhodes Scholars. No. 8 in the entire nation in fact. You need a 4.45 GPA/35 ACT and a 1510 to be in the 75th percentile of last year's entering students. And only 4,000 are accepted.

What is with the eye roll emoji? You got into Emory so you think NYU and Tulane are a slam dunk? Emory is not that great…
I can taste the bitterness through the screen. Who wouldn't expect to get into Tulane and NYU after getting into UCLA and Emory? Tulane and NYU will never be elite, they're known for yield protection, especially Tulane. Emory sits pretty in the top 25 with its 11% acceptance rate. Let's see if you or your DC could get in...
NYU is solid for undergrad business. My kid wants to go to Penn (Wharton) or NYU (stern). He is not interested in Georgia.

NP. You, otoh, are waaay overstating Emory’s “prestige”. We get it you have a kid there or are an alumnus. Not a good look, either way.
