Is DC a girl? Because unfortunately, the odds are much better for boys at schools below the tippy top tier.
Also, are you able to commit to early decision? Again, odds are much better if you don't need to rely on merit aid.

Our neighbors kids went to some of those listed schools. Still don’t have a fulltime job, just drift around. Now 28 toss

One went to Brandeis and does comp science, but she went to Whitman.

I'm confused. Those are great schools that wouldn't be accessible at all to a public school kid with similar stats.

Just curious but what did you expect with a 3.1 gpa? Not that those schools are bad - but how high were your expectations?

Honestly, I don’t know what I expected! Maybe Tulane, Miami, Bucknell, Colby? DCUM says that is where the bottom 25% of the big 3 go? The GPA is an upward trend (3 Cs in 9th) so probably a bit higher at the end of the year and by end of senior year.

Add a few higher ranked schools in the West for geographic diversity. In the age of test optional, private school low GPAs are just not going to help. Also, even if it isn't what your kid wants right now, throw in a big flagship. When the dust settles, it might start to look really good or at least pad the ego.

Several of these are great schools. I know several very successful and happy graduates of SMU, Syracuse, Trinity etc… Don’t feel badly the college counselors just want to make sure they have a few definite places to get into. Keep looking in that range you’ll find something besides they’re just suggestions from the counselors and your child can apply anywhere they would like to.

If you are under the impression that these are not good schools and that graduates from the 4000+ universities that are not in the top 20 do not have lucrative careers, you are a part of the illness that is causing this generation of children to suffer from anxiety, depression, and other deadly mental illnesses in record numbers.
