Maybe would put LB and Yorktown ahead of Madison but lots of close calls there.

Robinson and PVI actually played back in the 2018 season. Robinson won 19-18.

Robinson would not struggle with PVI and would give most any team mentioned a good game. Lockdown defenders doesn't mean much as fast as the Rams move the ball - its more about the goalie. All good teams headed into playoffs

Not sure where you got that. PVI is $19,290 for Catholic rate and $23,290 for non-Catholic rate. I'm sure the PVI kids would like to play Robinson too, and they would probably win but it may be closer than PVI would like. I'm just not sure the administration would schedule the game because it wouldn't benefit them.

So true. Most private school parents/players will say, "Gonzaga bench is equal to Riverside and Robinson." And, "no chance Robinson or Riverside hang with PVI or SSSA." Get out of here. Both these publics can hang with all of the WCAC and IAC privates this season, with the exception of St. John's because, well, St John's is the best team in the country this year and is killing everyone.

Very unrealistic hope but would be nice to actually have a true Virginia state champion that included the publics and privates. If they can get a small play-off between the top two in the WCAC and the IAC, why can't they do the same with the virginia privates and publics?

Week 8 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings

1. Robinson (12-0)

Results: Def. Fairfax 19-1, Def. #4 Lake Braddock 18-5

Analysis: Unbelievable dominance over Lake Braddock. Can anyone stop or even slow this team down? We are likely to see a rematch between Robinson and Lake Braddock in districts and again in regional play, but Lake Braddock will need to come up with some answers quickly as Robinson controlled every aspect of the first game. Robinson has scored in double digits in every game and should beat West Springfield by 10+ goals.

Up this week: at West Springfield (5/5)

2. Battlefield (10-0)

Results: Def. Gainesville 21-0, Def. John Champe 18-3

Analysis: As expected, Battlefield coasted this week, dropping below a 4.0 GAA for the season with a shutout against Gainesville and an 18-3 win over John Champe. They have an easy warmup game against Osbourn before the season ending rematch with Patriot. This is a must-watch game and easily the game of the week.

Up this week: vs. Osbourn (5/2), vs. Patriot (5/5)

3. Patriot (8-2)

Results: Def. Osbourn 20-0, Def. Colonial Forge 19-0

Analysis: Another easy set of wins to set up a three-game week, with two more easy warmup games and the Battlefield finale looming on Friday. Patriot’s offense seems to be clicking again and the rematch with Battlefield should be epic.

Up this week: at John Champe (5/2), vs. Mountain View (5/4), at Battlefield (5/5)

4. Madison (10-3)

Results: Def. at South Lakes 17-1

Analysis: Madison is really cruising and looks to be peaking right in time for the playoffs. In a bit of a surprise, Madison gets a bump in the rankings because they appear to be playing better lacrosse right now than just about any team not named Robinson. Madison is well-coached and played Robinson much closer than Lake Braddock, so a Madison/Robinson rematch would be more interesting than the inevitable Robison/Lake Braddock rematches. Westfield coming up is a scrappy team but Madison should handle them easily and take the #1 seed in the Concorde district. Hoping to see a Madison/Yorktown or Madison/Langley matchup in the Region D championship game.

Up this week: at Westfield (5/3)

5. Lake Braddock (11-2)

Results: Def. Woodson 17-2, Lost to #1 Robinson 18-5

Analysis: Lake Braddock cruised past Woodson, but surprisingly got obliterated by Robinson. Despite the loss, Lake Braddock and Robinson look to have Region C locked up, with no real apparent threats. Lake Braddock beat Madison head-to-head but that was a month ago and Madison appears to be the more complete team as the season progresses. Lake Braddock’s 6.0 GAA is much higher than Madison’s 4.3 GAA and could hurt them come playoff time.

Up this week: at South County (5/5)

6. Yorktown (8-3)

Results: Lost to #8 Langley 11-9, Def. McLean 18-7

Analysis: Yorktown let Langley control the pace of play and lost a tough one. They followed the loss up by pounding McLean. This is not last year’s Yorktown team, but they are still dangerous and if they get hot they can still beat almost any team in Virginia. Yorktown holds a slight edge over Langley despite the head-to-head loss based on overall performance this season and more quality wins. Yorktown should win both games this week and may get a shot at revenge against Langley in the district tournament, and potentially a third matchup in regionals.

Up this week: at Chantilly (5/4), at Marshall (5/5)

7. Langley (7-3)

Results: Def. vs. #4 Yorktown 11-9

Analysis: Gritty win to snap a six-game losing streak to Yorktown dating back to the 2018 season (according to MaxPreps). The game was a bit testy and Langley may see Yorktown again in districts and possibly regionals, so this rivalry should continue to grow. It is starting to look like a three-team race for Region D between Madison, Yorktown, and Langley, with Oakton and Westfield falling behind. Only two teams can advance so this should be a great battle ahead. Langley should crush Wakefield and end the season as the #1 seed in the Liberty district.

8. Freedom South Riding (7-4)

Results: Def. Osbourn 22-2, Def. Osbourn Park 19-4

Analysis: Freedom took care of business but remains a tough team to rank, as they don’t have any signature wins. Still, they have only lost to the #2 and #3 teams and have played them reasonably well (except for one blowout to Battlefield). Three-game week ahead with two easy warmup game followed by a rematch against John Champe, who Freedom only beat by two goals earlier this season (note: Battlefield just beat Champe by 15 goals). Freedom drops a spot because Langley’s resume is now more impressive with a win against a top 5 team.

Up this week: vs. Gainesville (5/2), vs. Colgan (5/3), at John Champe (5/5)

9. West Potomac: (9-4)

Results: Def. Alexandria City 8-6, Def, West Springfield 11-4

Analysis: West Potomac nudged by Alexandria City to hand them their third loss of the season, then handily beat West Springfield to successfully fend off two teams that were trying to crack the top 10. Woodson and West Potomac appear to be similarly matched and this should be a good matchup this week. There is a tight cluster of teams vying for third place in Region C (West Potomac, Woodson, West Springfield, Alexandria City), but none of them can hang with Robinson and Lake Braddock.

10. Westfield (8-5)

Results: Def. Chantilly 9-8 (OT)

Analysis: Oakton got beaten badly by Centreville and falls out of the rankings. Westfield has played three straight one goal games and has kept every game this season close except for its losses to Battlefield and Robinson. Overall, they are a solid but not overwhelming team. On par with Oakton, West Potomac, Woodson, West Springfield, Alexandria City, Centreville, Chantilly. Tough matchup ahead against Madison will likely not be that close.

Up this week: vs. #4 Madison (5/3)

Dropped Out: Oakton (6-7) – Lost to Centreville 15-8

Others Receiving Votes: Woodson (8-5), Alexandria City (8-8), Centreville (7-5)

Good question. The long-time SSSA coach (since moved to St. Christopher's) was a Robinson grad and I am surprised they never set up a yearly game. Robinson used to have an almost yearly matchup with Landon which would have been a good game this year also.

Haven’t seen Severn or pvi play this year but have seen St Stephen’s and think they’d match up pretty well against those guys. Would those coaches ever agree to play each other? I don’t understand why Robinson or Saints never play each other

Madlax is his primary club, but I was told he also played on the Top Caliber 2022 team a bunch over the years. Which makes sense because the O coordinator on Robinson is the owner of TC along with the Madison head coach. Keel and Solomon are two of the best coaches in Nova, and it's no surprise that the teams they coach have won the VA state championship 5 out of the last 8 seasons, and been in the state tournament 7 of the last 8 seasons, if not all 8 seasons (can't remember if Oakton was in the state tournament in 2017).

I've watched a good amount of Robinson games this season and I wouldn't say that Reynolds is definitively their best player. He is absolutely a stud, and probably leads their team in points, but that offense is led by a different player each game almost. One game #7 looked like their best player. Another game #10 looked like their best player. Their defender #4 marked up on LB's G-Town commit (#7), and held him to zero points. I'm guessing that's the only game he hasn't had a point this season, and he (#4) has looked like the best player on the field some games. The Robinson offense is very unselfish and IMO moves the ball better/faster than any other team in the state, public or private.

Lax Numbers has Robinson moved all the way up to #34 in the country after the demolition of Lake Braddock. Not sure that only 33 teams in the country could beat them, but pretty cool to see a VA public ranked so high nationally (even if their algorithm isn't the most accurate way of ranking teams).
