If they are in high school, tell them not to go to the clinic. Stay home the next day. Don’t test if it’s not a terrible illness and go back when better.

No, that's incorrect for FCPS. If they have symptoms, they get sent home and can come back 24 hours fever free and with a negative home Covid test.

The only kids wearing masks in high school are those whose politics drive their mask wearing. Nobody would say anything to them directly, but it’s sad and it’s almost exclusively black students.
Or maybe the black students were more likely to have loved ones suffer from covid and are more motivated to be careful. Most people who wear masks do so because they don't want to get covid, not because they are trying to make some statement.
Or the black kids aren’t vaccinated.

+1,000,000. Wypipo don't get it. Masks are not political instruments for us. They are life and death decisions.
All the black children are not walking around in N95 or equivalents.
I happen to know because I don’t send mine with anything but lighter more breathable cloth masks. I’m sure they have some with them today (one does for sure because a teacher heavily implied that she would think less of children going mask-free). They will wear them or not, but I’m predicting in a week or two very few children will still be wearing them

I think majority of teachers will keep masking at least till spring break. There are many immunocompromised, pregnant or teachers with little ones at home. My teammate and I just discussed and we both plan on masking for a little while longer.
+1, I’m not risking my spring break travel. So my kids will make until then as will I when I am around students.
Spoken like a true DMV parents, spring break is the most important outcome -- more important than health well-being and safety.
