IIRC pot grown on older plants has a skunkier smell.

Some pot in the 80s/90s had that smell but was considered lower grade and people in my circles avoided if possible.

After pot became legalized, marijuana plants were used for a longer time, making the skunky smell almost unavoidable.

Low quality stuff. The youth of today, are not connoisseurs like the boomers were. Lower expectations equal lower product quality.

It’s wild reading comments saying that pot has ALWAYS smelled this way — that have been written by people who were not even alive during the time period that the OP is using as a reference point.

I'm 54. My ex was a heavy user. A lot of it smelled like skunk.

You were with your ex in the late 70s and early 80s, and he was a heavy user then? Because that's the stuff we oldies are talking about

If the ex was PP's age he was a heavy user in kindergarten.
I, on the other hand, smoked weed in the 70s, after that was rarely around it but didn't notice it being skunky until the last couple of decades.

I wonder if current skunks are telling each other they smell more like weed than they did 30 years ago.

Good lord with all the bad info on here. How good or bad the weed is has nothing to do with it. It has to do with what sulfuric compounds are in a particular plant.

Indica strains are predominantly the culprits for the stronger skunky smells. Sativa tends to be a sweeter, woody smell. Indica weed is good for relaxing you so it’s often used for anxiety, stress, sleep problems, etc. And for pain. Sativa produces and more energetic high.

Why do people notice more of a skunky smell now than they remember from years ago? Probably a couple of reasons - the popularity of several Kush strains over the past 20-30 years, which are Indica. And also because medical marijuana prescriptions are for Indica strains than Sativa ones

Preach! My brothers used to grow it extensively in the 80s (and a couple spent some time in county because of it). They grew the Sativa strains and sourced most of their seeds from Amsterdam. They then developed a few strains of their own and sold seeds in addition to quarter bags (don't know if they called that anymore).

What I smell in my neighborhood is not what I smelled so often back then! We lived on farm and I'm very familiar with what skunks smell like. I can see why people think it smells like skunks but it's nowhere near as bad.

Now I eat the chocolate mint. One half of a triangle at 6 pm then the other half at 10 pm. No smell, tastes good. You do get cotton mouth so I keep Altoids handy. Or a quick rinse with Biotine works too.

You do get high but if you break the triangle in half it's 4 hours for the first piece then another 4 hours for the other you can manage the effects better. The first time my husband and I took it we each ate a whole triangle. When it hit we were so high we could not only see heaven but we could touch it. Then we started laughing so hard we both fell out hysterically laughing/crying. It had a heavy narcotic effect. We didn't do that again. It was crazy.

One square lasts for 8 days, 16 doses. May look small but don't be fooled. It's packed with enough THC to do what you want it to do. Just make sure you keep it away from the kids.

It's expensive but so worth it to me. $55 per square. My husband gets me 4 packs per month. No addiction. No hunger. No stink. No pills that can kill you. No hangover. Just bliss. I wasn't looking to get high. I only wanted relief and no way you can overdose.
I sleep so well. Something I couldn't say for the last 17 years. RA is hateful. And that chocolate actually works on pain. It does take an hour to work so you have to figure out your perfect time to take it.

PP, can you tell me more? I want to get some chewable to help with sleep issues. What are the 'triangles' called? And where do you get them?
