There remain (some) checks and balances on the executive branch here in the US.

Maybe it's deliberate but how in the world is that sane strategy??? Radiation at that magnitude will drift over the entire earth. And Russia is its first stop? Putin may be in a bunker right now but how long can that last?
Putin said he would do crazy things. Things the world had not seen before.

DP. Putin is not crazy, he is RUTHLESS. He is not afraid of a NATO expansion, he wants Ukraine's territory and vast natural resources. He will step up the brutality in Ukraine, this week is just the prelude.
They can’t take Ukraine. Being a ruthless asshole doesn’t overcome the military and strategic dysfunctions.
If they can't take Ukraine I could see them just nuking it.

If you live in the surrounding area, sure. But I don't see how that will affect us here.
Strain on resources, need for major emergency immigration, Europe will be in crisis. This is the largest nuclear plant in Europe. This is bad for everyone one way or another if it melts down.
