Nova 94 11u is very promising. The coach is solid with a lot of coaching experience on youth sports. Also don't have a son or relative on the team which is really important(for me)😀

I believe the 11U is already selected but the 10U is still not finalized.

There is. It's not the lets register for AAU and call ourselves a team organizations, it's the established clubs with sponsorships at the high school levels who are competing regionally and nationally.

But they all call themselves "AAU" and are in the category of AAU Teams when someone says, hey FCYBL is lower level competition then AAU. There are some absolutely pitiful AAU teams that are just money grabs.

Exactly. Would actually argue FCYBL is better league/experience - in-season (winter is basketball season), strong numbers for tryouts each year (at least for D1 teams), league schedule with standings and playoffs, strong competition but centered around geography so you don't have kids coming from hundred miles away and just seeing each other at games etc.

AAU continues to be wild west - yes a handful of really good teams with good coaching - but also a plethora of questionable teams, sketchy coaches and random, unaffiliated tournaments with varying degree of talent levels.. Most of it just money grab by coaches/organizations - and most really good natural athletes (especially before high school level) are playing other sports in the spring... 5th and 6th grade still too young to specialize in just one sport (no matter what it is) - definitely see more repetitive injuries at the middle school AAU level.

This is a 5th grade D2 team. There was a better Vienna team in D1 so my guess is this team had fourth and fifth graders, including a relative of the coach. It certainly was not an AAU team in the off season. I’m sure most if not all of the players had never played travel before. There is no intelligent reason to put 13 5th graders on an FCYBL roster.

I guess Vienna doesn’t have minimum playtime rules? Our league wants travel coaches to play kids a quarter each game or justify why they’re aren’t to the commissioner.

That's exactly what it is. For some kids it's their first exposure to travel, for others, it's a chance to play with their local friends. The only ones who think otherwise are some coaches and some parents who either don't want to do AAU or whose kids can't make their preferred teams.

If FCYBL is the offseaon for AAU teams, then those AAU coaches probably want to keep the entire team together. If FCYBL is looked at more as offseason development then all the kids should play and/or the coach should be up front with players and parents ahead of time that for each game, given the roster size, some kids will sit out the entire game and every player on the roster will have a game they will sit.

But seriously, if it's the offseason, all kids should get playing time in these games and as equal PT as possible.

Why would this guy put 13 kids on his team knowing he was only going to play the top 7-8? That's just mean.
