I think Duke, Wake Forest, Hopkins, Georgetown have fallen out of favor since then, looking at where my kid and peers have applied.
Wake Forest remans hot with private school kids. Strength of football team this year likely to continue that trend.
Wake forrest acceptance rate is over 30%
It doesn't belong T30
It was 27 percent last year but we aren’t talking about us new rankings anyway. It is a hot school in the private schools and has been for the last 5 to 10 years.
Uh maybe among the dumb private school set. Truly no one dreams of going to Wake Forest. It’s completely irrelevant.

I have a high school junior and a lot of kids her age think of William and Mary as quirky in a bad way. Not saying it’s accurate but there isn’t a ton of nteresr in attending.
Same here. I asked why and she said there is a certain type of student who goes there and left it at that. She's not at all interested in applying.
The other VA publics draw more of the “hot party girl” /“I post my outfit on TikTok” type. That’s one of the reasons my DD likes W&M. It has more of a “be whoever you are” vibe more like crunchy SLACS.

My kid didn't have the stats but I was really surprised to see that Naviance showed really low application numbers from his MCPS HS for this year - about half of the number that applied last year. Most other schools show the opposite trend, much higher volume this year. All schools have their issues, but I can't understand how Northeastern could be "hot" and Georgetown is somehow not appealing.

This poster must be in a parallel universe! Applications at quality state universities are up everywhere, including at W&M. Also, with test optional wrecking havoc with admissions, W&M is becoming a more popular ED choice in the DMV. As for career outcomes, they have to be considered relative to the majors offered. W&M doesn’t have an engineering program, so those high salaries are absent relative to UVA or VTech. If you compare W&M outcomes to other liberal arts colleges, they are equal or better. Yes, W&M is more expensive than some public schools, but the class sizes and teacher attention is similar to a private school. From that perspective, W@M’s $40k is far below a private school’s $80k, especially for those who don’t qualify for financial aid.
The $80k you are referencing for SLACs are schools with 1500-2000 students. William and Mary is 4x as big.

The Ohio and PA LACs are taking the first hit but eventually may spread to the NE ones, too. It also shows in rising popularity of colleges like Northeastern, Temple, College of Charleston, etc.
My kid seemed drawn to the pace of such backwaters. She gets her fix of Bethesda when she comes home but chose the bucolic as an ideal setting for learning and living stress free in a closed community of like minded young people I think.

Unless you are going to a top 25 or bottom tier diploma mill, it doesn’t matter as much as you think regarding their 25-year career trajectory…but we all believe it does…trust me, I’ve seen all sides of this and have been around a long time watching it all…
