They all die in a fire at Kevins new house?

You can see the seeds of this in the wedding photo -- I bet Rebecca insisted Kevin ("Jack") stand next to her, which is why he isn't with his own kids and Miguel is off to the side looking peeved.
Rebecca will die in the penultimate episode and the final episode will be the aftermath. Kevin & Sophie will reconnect there - she'll be divorced or widowed - and it'll be clear they'll end up together. But only after he's spent a long time single and taking care of his kids and himself alone.
The ending everybody wants and nobody sees coming.
STOP! Please make it stop! This is not a thing!
DP here - THANK YOU!!
Also, this is not a "New prediction!" It was discussed like 3 pages ago. I understand people aren't going to read all 89 pages of this thread, but have some courtesy and sense and read the last 5 or so.

Just enjoy the way Kevin went from sitcom heartthrob to Serious Actor to barely employable in a matter of five years. Or think about how his sobriety is no longer a source of concern. Think about how Randall's express rise in politics makes total sense. Think about how Beth's career change to something in the arts was smooth and without any apparent financial hit.
In other news, what happened to Audio?

Well said! This is the glaring problem that is never to be spoken about and I'm sick of it. I would have had so much more respect for the writers (and the actress) if they had shown her going on a gastric bypass journey. She's a beautiful woman, but is morbidly obese and there's no sugarcoating that. As the mother of two young children, her health and safety should be foremost. In real life, doctors AND family members would be pleading with her to have the surgery. At that weight, diet and exercise aren't going to touch the issue.
Have you all watched the whole show? There has been TONS of storyline on this. It was Kate’s entire plot for like two years. She and Toby met at a meeting for people with disordered eating.

But she has not dropped any weight and nobody has had that conversation with her that she will die and leave her children without a mother if she doesn’t lose it. It is the elephant in the room.

No the character is just annoying now. It kinda ruins the show because her and Phillip have zero chemistry and Toby is just trying to provide and she can’t stop playing the victim card over and over again. The divorce just feels shoehorned in at the last minute.
Toby and Kate had a reason to get together, at least, with the weight loss being the catalyst. Kate and Phillip getting together is just out of the blue and unrealistic.
I live in Los Angeles with a neurotypical child and one with special needs and I found it very unrealistic that she was unwilling to move to San Francisco with Toby. She would not be able to live in that house and only work part-time as a teacher’s aide without a substantial second income. She was being selfish, plain and simple. It was completely unrealistic that Toby could take job paying much less and then afford two houses even if Kate took a full time job. Teachers don’t make that much at these schools.
Agree, and she's not a certified teacher, so making a small salary. Does she even have a college degree?

I don't think they even needed to go so far as that. The fact that a pregnant woman chose Kate to adopt her daughter just seemed sooo unrealistic to me. The mobility issues, energy level, life expectancy of morbid obesity, plus Kate was already 40, not college educated. Also, wasn't Toby unemployed by that point? I understand there was an emotional connection with the birth mother, but that's a lot to overlook.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Ok… was on spring break and just watched it. Wow. This episode was so sad. Watching the break down of a marriage was truly heartbreaking. I’m a little surprised by the anti-Kate sentiment here, on one hand she’s not blameless, but honestly I get the impression she’s just not in love with Toby anymore and that’s why the marriage ended. In the other hand, I feel Hailey is like this lost child in this all: Toby wasn’t connecting with Jack, let’s adopt another kid!!! Brilliant! Although it’s unsavory, I’m sure we all know people who’ve had kids, biologically or otherwise, whose relationships weren’t exactly stable. It’s very realistic.
All of the big 3 are flawed human beings, I just hate how important it is for a woman to be “likable” to be related to.
Did anyone notice that Chrissy Metz called Toby “Chris” at one point or was that just me?
I disagree Kate and Phillip don’t have chemistry, although I would have liked to seen more of the build-up to that first date. Maybe that’s to come. Phillip’s story of his first wife was a kick in the stomach. Yes, if I were to meet them out I’d probably think they were a bit of an attractiveness mismatch, but we had the beauty (female) and the beast (male) b.s. shoved down our throats so long, I’m ok with this.
I really hope we get the Kate/Sophie friendship reconnection story played out.
So it’s gotta be Sophie, right? I’m a Cassidy fan but if she stays in the picture as a close friend and business colleague I’m cool with that. I just don’t particularly like the Sophie actress. In anything she’s done.
Chris Sullivan blew me away in this episode. This episode was the payoff of a long-alluded to issue that Toby felt alienated in the Pearson family (remember that one episode where Beth, Toby and Miguel went to a bar and talked about how much they felt like outsiders sometimes?) and was very cognizant of the lingering effects of Jack on his wife. The writers laid the groundwork for this divorce almost as soon as they got together in season one.
When was that?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I finally watched the episode today. As others have said, Kate would constantly criticize Toby for the way he parented the children. Toby would try to make improvements. But what about Kate? She would break down when Toby criticized her. She would never try to make improvements to her own life. She acted as if she didn't think she need to make any improvements/do anything to save the marriage. It was all on Toby to make the changes.
Her character really did get worse as the show went on. There was no personal growth from her at all.
And Philip - yeah, we needed to see more back story as to what ignited that spark with Kate. From what I remember of his personality in previous seasons, he was kind of a jerk. But to now have him love Kate? Doesn't ring true at all.
+1
Phillip was shown as being pretty snarky and dismissive of Kate when she first started working at the school. Granted, I now see we're supposed to realized his "crusty" exterior was just a layer of protection over the traumatic loss of his wife, but still. As for the first wife, couldn't the writers simply have said she left him due to the IVF issue - and not that she was then hit by a drunk driver? Honestly, not everything has to be so tragic and dramatic.
