I think the fact that this is a thread about the trial of a pedophile IS the trigger warning.

It didn’t start that way since the thread started with him in federal custody without knowing what the charges and eventual trial were going to be about. But at this point everyone knows what he’s on trial for and should be well aware of what they’re clicking on. That being said, what good comes from posting the specific details??

DP, I don't understand why people would click on this thread if they're easily triggered by this kind of stuff. We all know about Josh Duggar's history, and the charges. They're sickening obviously, but a "trigger warning" isn't necessary. Take some personal accountability and stop reading.

If the evidence is as bad as described, there's an argument to be made that you aren't any worse off going to jury trial and hoping for something to go wrong. We don't know what sort of plea deal was offered. If the prosecutor was unwilling to budge on sentencing recommendations this might have been the thinking.

And if you go to trial, there's a trial record you can rely on for appeal. Not so if you take a plea.

Yeah - these jurors deserve extra gratitude from the citizenry for viewing this. It will mark their souls.

It’s not that I’m so naive as to think this stuff didn’t happen pre-computers, but in this regard, the internet has been nothing but a blight on the world. It has made it so much easier for these criminals and so, so much harder at every level for people who have to view it - law enforcement, even your friendly computer security people at work and, most importantly, the victims who become more numerous to feed the insatiable demand. It’s horrifying.

I’m no defender of josh but he was underage (12 yrs old the first time) when he first did what he did to his sisters. He was a child and I think his parents and church community clearly failed him when he asked for help. Now this is no surprise. I find that sad.


This made me pause, because you’re right. There are accounts of josh admitting/ confessing what he had done to the adult in charge more than once- it sounded like he told Bobye what he had done without any prompting, and it sounds like he freely admitted the thing with his sisters to his parents. He was crying out for help. And didn’t get it. And now he is this monster , when he probably didn’t want to be.

I'm pretty sure the sisters snitched on him first, and then he confessed. Who knows what would have happened if the sister (presumably Jill) never spoke up about it.


Imo it doesn’t matter if sister snitched. He was still a child who was failed by the adults in his life. It was an adult’s responsibility to get him help. You say who knows what would have happened if jill hadn’t spoken up but she did and pretty much the worst thing did happen.

They are foolish to think going to trial is a good idea. Once the jury sees what’s on those videos, they’re going to want to personally string him up from the rafters. What are his lawyers thinking? Why didn’t he take a plea?

We don't know that his lawyers thought that going to trial was "a good idea." We only know that he didn't plead guilty. His lawyers can't force him to take a plea. They are limited to recommending a plea and possibly moving to withdraw from representing him if they have grounds to support a withdrawal at that stage.
