Please explain to us how the President shows he cares about furloughed federal workers. Pelosi and the House have passed several funding bills. Why won't Trump sign them?

Crickets.....

She’s never had to negotiate, as the Republicans always caved. Trump is not giving in. Nancy needs to accept this fact and do something. She can’t just moan about Trump not opening the gov. Does she know how to negotiate?

You don’t negotiate while holding 800,000 people without a paycheck. So if that how you ‘negotiate’’, by taking hostages- then Pelosi does not know how to negotiate. She’s a silly lady who thinks that you negotiate as a part of governing. How cute!

Well, how is it working for Nancy? Trump is not going to cave. Again, you and Nancy and the Dems need to change their tactics. They cannot just whine about how unfair Trump is being. Those are just words and obviously not working.

This. She is wealthy and doesn’t give a fig except sticking it to Trump.

It is appalling that members of Congress and their lame staff get paid.

In 2013, Bernie Sanders voted for bill earmarking $18 billion for border wall:

Yes she does, she made a counteroffer in a press release, and if you knew how negotiations work, you would know how to read it. It's okay, the media didn't give it much coverage, so they don't know how it works either.

No need to insult me. Please post this counteroffer. I’ve read and heard through multiple mainstream news organizations that she said Trump’s offer was a non-starter.

McConnell should have brought the House bills to the Senate floor and see where it goes. To not even bring them to a vote is an abdication of duty.

I assume you also feel that Pelosi has an obligation to allow Trump's proposal to come to a vote in the House?

McConnell isn’t going to waste time having a vote for a bill he knows the President will veto.
That bill MUST contain funding for the Wall.

And I agree, Nancy should let the House vote on bill with DACA amnesty that Trump just offered. She doesn’t know how to negotiate.

No, he shielding Trump from having to stand alone. He doesn't care about the wall or DACA, or he would have done something about it two years ago. For the same reason, Trump just wants a "win" over Democrats, because he could have had this shutdown when his own party controlled the House. Except he didn't have the votes then, and he doesn't have it now.

I am old enough to remember when President Trump said he would be proud to close the government until he got what he wanted.

That is NOT the Dems fault, that is on Trump.

I am also old enough to remember when the Democrat controlled House passed a number of bills that were verbatim to unanimous votes in the Senate to keep the government open. That is on the GOP and McConnnell, not the dems.

So please explain exactly how anyone arrives at 'this shutdown is the dems fault" - and please do not cite Fox News. They are not your friend in this discussion because actual facts matter.

Uh, the problem is that the bill would be veto-proof. That would end the Republican party (in both senses of the word). Basically, McConnell knows the Republican party (in both senses of the word) are over and he's delaying the moment as long as possible.

This. The Dems don’t care about US workers. The Dems support workers, workplace environmental and work conditions, mini age so the working class has a decent and workable salary They say they care for the working classes, yet want the open border to flood the labor market with cheap, unskilled laborers to compete against those same low-skilled US citizens. Dems support sensible border control and immigration reform; supports everify so businesses hire legal workers, unlike, say, the Trump properties I simply cannot believe that the House is not forced to stay in session — no trips home for members— until this issue is resolved. The House has passed a number of bills to open the government. Clean bills identical to what the Senate passed in December. Why won't McConnell bring them to the Senate floor? Because they would pass with a veto-proof majority and embarrass Trump. Who is playing politics?

Trump is not going to open the Gov. first. He would lose all leverage in the negotiations. I cannot believe the House leadership turned down Trump’s DACA deal. How, exactly, are the Dems supporting the dreamers??????? No action.

Such a warped sense of how things work, have worked and should work, much less a distorted sense of facts on the ground.[b]

Can we stick to the basic facts — unskilled illegal workers vs unskilled legal workers.

Bernie is/was against open boarders and flooding labor market with unskilled labor at the expense of US low-skilled labor.
