Are you personally impacted by option 3?

Yes, but there are so many other things to worry about, like the crushing blows to Science in the US. There’s just too much going on.

That’s a good point. I know it’s a big deal in DC if a school loses Title I status. Is the same true in MD?

Yes, it is a big deal as a lot of funding is lost, from extra staff to school lunches.

Agree it’s in the table. Parents who oppose it should organize now.

But if it does happen, many parents will move/go private to avoid it. That’s just the reality.

Many will not due to lack of space at privates and cost. Most of us cannot afford $50-70k per child and that money is better spent on college.

Good thing Sandy Springs is keeping the doors open.

To buy a house in the neighborhoods they are talking about busing East, a family needs to make $500K plus. I’m guessing there is room in that budget for private schools.

As noted upthread, the median household income in the Chevy Chase zip code is $200k. So more than half the households in CC definitely aren’t making $500k plus.

Single family homeowners, the new ones at least, do. I could never afford my house if I had to buy it today!

That may be true or may not. If you’ve got data that would help support the point. There are also a ton of townhomes in CC, as well as apartments.

Google: how much do I need to make to buy a $1.5 million home?

There are lower-cost apartments and some subsidized housing. Also, less expensive parts are technically more Silver Spring and BCC pulls from Silver Spring as well. But, less expensive home are still $800k+. Some of the lower income familes may have inherited homes or live with family.

WJ becomes 30%, Woodward 50% and Whitman 20% FARMS?

MCPS needs to calculate bus time and see if it's practical. As long as bus rude is not longer than 20-25 minutes, it will work. Longer than than is impractical.

What is current FARMS in WJ?

19.8 according to their charts. WJ is a wonderful, diverse school with many high performing students. That’s why it’s so overcrowded, unfortunately

Its not diverse with income, maybe with other demographics. It also has a large catchment zone.

It's overcrowded because the geographical area assigned to it is too large and populated.

Most aren’t going to sandy springs for location, price and quality of education. Whitman families, sure, but not the Wheaton families, some can, most cannot.
