I watched that several-part documentary about him and my takeaway is that there was more secrecy in his day and the women didn't speak up or if they did they were actively discredited by him and others. He also promoted himself as a feminist and free speech advocate and hid behind that. I don't believe he was sincere in any way, but I think famous people were more able to use the media to promote false, good guy personas in the past despite obvious evidence to the contrary. He was completely despicable.

It worked until it didn't. Cosby got a story killed in National Enquirer about his rapes. Janice Dickinson had to remove her story about him in her memoir. He got away with it for a long time.

Hugh was an intel honeypot as well. It’s very obvious. Diddy’s LA house was very close to Hugh’s.

Not to my knowledge…it was more the drugging, raping, recording, bisexual orgies, an entourage of guests who also sexually assaulted the women (and maybe men) and a ‘clean-up crew’ to hide evidence and scare the victims into silence.

I think there is a difference in that High Heffner was very open about his debauchery and deviance. He started playboy in 1953, his house was called the playboy mansion. He dressed in dressing gowns. Anyone going to his place knew what they were getting into.

I think this is probably part of diddy’s closing arguments at trial. But I do think part of it is changing social norms. It’s pretty disgusting when men got away with in the 70s and 80s — it was very common for rich and famous men to sleep with teenagers (see, for instance, pretty much every 70s rock song). That is now pretty wildly condemned (even if it still happens, at least people don’t celebrate it as much). I think part of trumps problem is that he didn’t recognize that changing norm — so he was bragging about gojng into the dressing rooms at miss teen USA at a point when that was already seen as gross — whereas in the 70s, I’m not sure it would have even been seen as gross. (And if you go back far enough in time, those girls all would have been seen as marriage material).

I think probably a large part of what went on at Duffy’s parties was consensual, if gross, and non-criminal. But it sounds like he crossed the line at least in some occasions and I think his defense team is going to have a rough time here.
