How sad that the only republicans who had the courage and integrity to vote against Hegseth were women.

George Will came out against Hegseth this morning, and his column is getting attention from some RINO GOP Senators, plus the fact that he paid $50k in hush money to the woman who claimed he raped her. But I still think they'll chicken out.

3. 1969-1970 Director of Office of Civil Rights at HEW
4. 1977-1993 Congressman representing California congressional district
3a. Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Budget
3b. Chairman on Subcommittee for Personnel & Police
3c. Vice-Chair of the Caucus of Vietnam Era Veterans
5. 1993-1994 Director of Office of Management and Budget
6. 1994-1997 White House Chief of staff where he dealt with both foreign and domestic policy
7. 1998-2009 Professor of Public Policy at Santa Clara University
8. 2009-2011 Director of the CIA
9. 2007 Established the Panetta Institute of Public Policy at California State University

Panetta was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993. He served under President Bill Clinton as director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1993 to 1994 and as White House chief of staff from 1994 to 1997. He cofounded the Panetta Institute for Public Policy in 1997 and served as a distinguished scholar to chancellor Charles B. Reed of the California State University System and as a professor of public policy at Santa Clara University.

By the time he was nominated as defense secretary, Leon Panetta had served as a US congressman for over 15 years (1977 to 1993). He had been director of the OMB. And he had been the director of the CIA. (As CIA director, he also oversaw the operation that killed Osama bin Laden).

So Rep. Panetta had extensive experience both on the appropriations/legislative side of national defense and security issues, but also in actually running agencies with substantial budgets on the executive branch side.

Mr. Hegseth brings none of that experience. He came to his hearing unprepared and with no familiarity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, a group with strong US ties (in other words, dude doesn't even know who our friends are in a strategically important global theater). In contrast---just so you know that I am not reflexively anti any Trump appointee, Marco Rubio IS qualified to be Secretary of State.

You mean other than the fact that Panetta had previously headed the CIA and the OMB, or the fact that he had never been accused of beating women?

• While drunk in his military uniform - a violation of military laws - Mr. Hegseth was so inebriated that his brother had to carry him out of a Minneapolis strip club. This occurred during a drill weekend with the Minnesota National Guard.
• Mr. Hegseth regularly became so drunk that he passed out, threw up, and had to be carried out of family events and public settings, sometimes shouting sexually and racially offensive statements.
• Mr. Hegseth said that women should not vote or work, and that Christians needed to have more children so they could overtake the Muslims

You left out the part where he was fired by two veterans organizations for financial malfeasance.
