She looked beautiful and the gown was custom. It was daring (for American fashion tbh, Americans are less daring, esp first ladies) and unusual for an inaugural gown. It’s hard to pull off a choker and Melania did. She trended less colonial and more continental today, and it’s disconcerting to some of the hayseeds.
Ivanka followed suit. They both looked fantastic.

Oooh, this is beautiful… another +1 for Ivanka! Finally the woman leverages her best asset… her beautiful figure, in a normal way. -OP
That is GORGEOUS. The fit, the line, the all of it.

Absolutely stunning.
It looks like a dress from David’s Bridal.

Nailed it! Just tacky. So many amazing designers out there and this is the best she can do? Looks like something my 8 year old DD might have picked out for princess dress up.
DP. You know it’s a redesign by Givenchy, right? It’s absolutely gorgeous.
Yes absolutely. And it may have been lovely in the ‘50s on a 25 year old in a movie. Totally ridiculous princess fantasy today.
Disagree. It was beautiful. DP.

How can someone so rich look so cheap?
She doesn’t look cheap at all.

Terrible idea. Comparing herself to Audrey? Vanky will come up way short. She has no self. She would never have helped the Dutch resistance like Audrey. She is a white supremacist sympathizer.
She has been trained to go along with what Daddy says and does and she isn’t going to change — only maybe if he dies before she does.
“Even the most generous interpretation of her decision to recreate this iconic piece of Hollywood history—as an homage to the late Audrey—is exhausting in its unoriginality.
It’s probably pointless to speculate what Hepburn, a member of the Dutch resistance that sheltered Jews amid the Holocaust, would’ve thought of the Trump administration and the neo-Nazis he just pardoned.“

I personally loved the dress and even am okay with just straight-up copying a dress if its a particularly gorgeous one....but I totally agree that copying Audrey's iconic dress for an extremely political event for someone with these politics comes off as extremely ignorant, given Audrey's activism. She was the UNICEF ambassador and was a major proponant of the rights of refugee children....and the cornerstone of this administration is freezing refugee admissions, deporting children, pulling out of international organization and agreements, and authorizing ICE to raid schools looking for immigrant children. So an "homage" to Audrey is a perverse choice for this particular person, and just makes her look really dumb (like she doesn't know or understand how Audrey would absolutely hate everything about this administration).

Wow, that dress is almost normal except that it looks like the ran out of fabric in front. And her face/hair looks almost normal too. I hope for her that this is a bridge look to transition back to the world of normal people and away from whatever crazytown she entered into in her Don Jr phase. She looked so bad when she was with him.

Ivanka knocked it out of the park.
(Her earlier green outfit though…. Totally cosplaying Kate Middleton. I think wearing her camel coat inside was also following Kate Middleton’s penchant for coat dresses).
Ivanka looks like a human mannequin. Her proportions are all off. Her plastic surgery is a travesty. Just so unnatural looking, so bad. Ugh
I think the black gloves are a lot with the dress. Also, Audrey Hepburn was tiny, so the embroidery covered more of her dress. Ivanka's dress looks relatively plain, though I think it has exactly the same amount of embroidery. In addition, Ivanka has a slight hunch, a lot of tall women do especially if their partners are not much taller, and that really doesn't help when trying to carry a dress like this.
The level of embroidery per blank space on the dress bothered me too, and it's a solvable problem -- they should have made the embroidery on Ivanka's dress larger. Even if using an existing fabric, you can cut it so the embroidery comes higher on the bust and covers more of the skirt. I also just think the construction is off and makes it look like a cheap replica -- what you'd get if you sent a photo of the Audrey dress to one of those Chinese replica-makers. But like look at this other angle on the original below below -- it's not just that the embroidery covers more of the dress, it's also the construction of the overskirt and the way it seems to wrap around more and have more volume, and little details like the bow at the waistline. It looks like a very finished, complete look. Ivanka's lacks that level of finish.
I can’t believe I didn’t immediately recognize this as Audrey’s dress! I agree that the original is better made but I don’t think Ivanka could have worn the more full wraparound effect of the Audrey version — Audrey had no hips so could do that.
I still think it’s a gorgeous dress. Would look even better on her if she had her natural brunette color. I spent the whole last administration posting that she should ditch the bottle blonde but I guess she didn’t read our thread thoroughly enough to get that note. She would be so much prettier as a brunette.
Unlike Vanky, Audrey starved in 1944 in the Netherlands during a famine and the war. Most likely, her body did not get the needed nutrients and this contributed to her small frame. The effects of starvation affected her for her entire life.
I don’t think that’s right, from a biological perspective. People who endured famine at a young age (like holocaust victims) often gain extra weight as they age because their bodies reset to preserve calories. Childhood malnutrition is a risk facotor for future heart disease because of it. I think Audrey was just genetically tiny plus people were smaller back then. Extended Lack of childhood nutrition does affect height — women who grew up during the Spanish civil war were incredibly short.
You don’t think what’s right?
She was quoted as blaming her health issues on her years of starvation. If you don’t believe her, fine.

Yeah Lara has been the worst of them lately and I am also shocked that she looked normal.
Was Bettina there?
I think I saw her reading her phone. Don was in the 4th or 5th row. They put him way back behind his siblings. Bettina may have been next to him.
So is Bettina the official girlfriend now? Is Kimberly in Greece already? This is so messy and weird and I feel like it's getting no attention.
