And of course the elephant in the room is that the odds are it's going to be the woman who ends up being his caregiver. So if Gerry isn't a decent man, then what is there? He's a senior citizen who ran some random businesses and bought a house on a lake with his wife who died, no more tragically than anyone else's deceased spouse. I guess he has his hair, if that's important to you?

If Theresa likes him, great, but she'll be no different from all the fabulous women aged 20-70 going home to some hopelessly mediocre man because it's supposedly better than being alone and he's...nice.

At least Susan is attracted to women. The rest of them, I'd suggest just hanging out with each other and having sex with a hot young guy when the urge strikes. That's what we're all doing now, because nice doesn't cut it and they're rarely that nice anyway.

Agree with all of this. But Theresa might be okay with mediocre because she finds him attractive and doesn't want to be alone. That's okay, I guess. We heard only his ex GF's side. I would like to know his. My guess is he's never had much money and didn't retire at 55 because he was uber successful but because he wasn't and his pipeline of random short-term jobs ended. It's telling that his wife continued to work for another decade+. They needed the income. I've certainly known wealthy cheapskates, but he may well have been cheap because he needed to be. Money was probably the primary reason for pursuing GB. And, yes he was probably not thrilled his wife had gained a lot of weight over time, and is sensitive about that with a new partner. He's thin and fit and would like a partner to be the same. I don't think that's disqualifying. If he was cruel about it with his ex, that's not okay, but maybe it was part of a larger disconnect they had at the time and she decided to focus on that piece. She definitely comes across as very angry, whether justifiable or not. Although I feel bad for her--we've seen how he can love bomb at the beginning then shift--I tend to always believe the truth is somewhere in the middle.

He’s the kind of guy that is all over the map. He’s not the nice guy he pretends to be otherwise he wouldn’t be doing this he wouldn’t be telling the families how much he loves, and will protect the girl he just wouldn’t he’s very childlike. He’s a manchild he’s fickle and frankly, I think they should all tell him to shove it. He’s not that big of a deal he’s lucky he got a big cosmetic surgical makeover and made an average looking guy into a handsome man. Big deal Doesn’t make him a saint. He’s done some very questionable things and that shows his character. I’m sorry it’s 72 years old. That’s who he is run ladies run.

I understand his role as the bereaved widower made him more appealing but why not simply say he has dated, occasionally seriously, but still looking for the one. The outright lie is upsetting.

Keep in mind his whole narrative was producer-crafted to sell him as a romantic lead. We'd already discussed his professional glow-up on this thread. It does say a lot about him that he went along with a dishonest narrative, however.

I think he was gaga about Leslie until the overnight with all the talking, and who knows what did or didn't happen between them physically but I doubt they were in sync there either. He was much more reserved in the morning. I believe he was sincere when he said those things the night before, but developed reservations based on her answers to his many questions. Theresa, being the "A" student she is, passed the exam with flying colors.

I agree with this. He was so attracted to Leslie and felt protective of her, blindly hoped the conversation would go well but it didn’t. He liked Theresa from the get, but she blew him away with her like-mindedness on the overnight (whether real or simulated) and she swerved into first. He and Theresa do make sense. He and Leslie really don’t. And his family will reinforce this.

Yup, he was totally into her until the fantasy suite, which obviously didn't go well. Theresa's went swimmingly, then he changed his mind. Given they hadn't spent all that much time together before then, not really that shocking.

At least he inspires free verse compilations.

Well this isn't the first time a family on the Bachelor has heard that the lead loves X. In other seasons, the families have questioned it and asked themselves or X "sure he says he feels that way, but what is he telling the other contestant(s)?".

The families all knew that Gerry still had others in the running. Even after the first overnight, Leslie knew that Theresa was still in the running. She even wondered aloud what Gerry would tell Theresa.

They aren't stupid. There's only ONE winner in the end. And until it gets to the end, there's no commitment to any of the contestants.
