I'd be sad that the passengers didn't use better judgment than to get into a car with a teen they knew was drinking, after they themselves had been drinking, and not wear seat belts. We preach, beg, implore our kids not to do these things. So I'd never forgive myself if my kids died this way.

DD went on a trip with a group of seniors a few years ago. Our contract stated that any caught drinking, even if they were of age, would be sent home.

I went to a top prep school. There was a clause that anyone violating student conduct on or off campus at any time would be subject to disciplinary procedures. A very wealthy girl was expelled for underaged drinking during break not on school grounds. Kids did this stuff but parents didn't condone it or make it easy because if you got caught, you were out.

The drinking and partying would have been far worse if it had been easier. Too many adults think that kids drink because its forbidden fruit or the bat shit crazy parents are too into their kids being popular because they weren't. Kids drink because they want to fit in socially or it makes them feel more confident when they are socially insecure. If its not available, they drink less. If its easily accessible, they'll drink more.

I've seen worse parents. This guy in my neighborhood, who is a registered sex offender, frequently lets his underage daughter and her friends drink at his house. More disturbing is that they always spend the night!!

I don't know about them all, but I'm an OP of another thread in this forum and I asked Jeff to delete it because I saw an older one in the Maryland Schools forum already talking about it. There aren't supposed to be multiple threads on a topic.

There were multiple original posts in the last 24hrs about this trip to Mexico and they have all disappeared? What happen. It was on the news. Why can't it be posted here. I didn't start them but I did comment on them.
