Santos is in the wrong career. She's too nasty to be a physician.

Meh. In the ER, she's fine. Pathology/radiology/surgery might have suited her temperament more, but ER docs are often jerks as well.

I have not experienced ER doctors being jerks (surgeons, yes) but I also don't think Santos is a jerk. I think she's over confident and this sometimes spills over into arrogance, but other times actually helps her do her job because that confidence helps her do the detective work for diagnosis (thus why McKay notes that she's good with the "weird" cases). From a patient perspective, confidence in your doctor is awesome, as Santos gets older and learns to calibrate that confidence a bit better, and develops bedside skills, I think she actually has a good personality for emergency medicine because you need to have a kind of dogged personality, and a certain amount of bravado, to handle the pace and the challenge.

Santos' biggest challenge is in handling her colleagues. One issue with medicine as a profession is that it is extremely competitive yet it's a helping profession that demands collaboration. It is very common for young doctors to struggle with that balance. You have to fight against peers all the time for admission to med school, resident programs, fellowships, even just opportunities to do procedures or work with particular mentors. But there's a balance where you keep this competition friendly and respectful so that you can still work together, learn from each other, and have a non-toxic workplace, and that's where Santos is failing right now. But maybe making some progress -- you see in the latter part of Season 2 that she actually is making connections with various colleagues and learning to collaborate better. She might never repair some of the damage of her prior behavior (I think Javadi will probably hold a grudge over the nickname thing for a long time, for instance), but she's a good doctor and that will go a long way in developing rapport with colleagues. As will her openness to building friendships outside the workplace (letting Whitaker live with her, asking Mel if she wants to do karaoke).

She's early in her career and still learning. I actually think she might have the best temperament for emergency med of all the day shift residents (the night shift residents all seem like classic ED docs, but day shift has a lot of head cases and that job is tough on head cases). Still a baby doc though.

Javadi is interesting. She def keeps her real personality closed. Her criticism of her teammates WAS of a position of a judging younger person. I don’t see that as a flaw, it could read poorly. She’s still learning how to be outside of academia.

I don’t see Victoria as smug and arrogant at all. That’s Santos!

Oh I do. She thinks she's a genius and superior to the other docs, then seems bewildered, with that wide-eyed stunned expression, when anyone dares to critique her.

They let the smugness come out a little more in Season 2. I really disliked her little eye roll over Mel. Reminded me of all the mean girls I have known!

Seek help.

I thought they were hinting she'd be good in emergency pediatric medicine this season. She was good with the fireworks kid.

What story, lol? Running around looking anguished and refusing to reassure anyone who thought he might be wanting to kill himself because he's into the drama?

Lol, very true. I hope they adjust back to being like season 1 next time. I will miss Mohan. I liked her and think they could have found her a spot. Something must have happened backstage because she had a good story until halfway through the season and then it was just her getting calls from her mom and breaking down.

No one seems to agree with you, sorry. Tons and tons of pages here and no one has ever suggested Javadi is smug or arrogant.

I agree with them -- I think she's a bit smug.

She was last season. I liked her this season.
