Four tourists tried swimming in red flag conditions and drowned. Don’t know if there were any mitigating conditions, like alcohol. I believe all were men.
yep, red flag swimming can kill anyone
In Florida you can get arrested for swimming when the red flags are up. The life guards do not want to drown while saving your stupid drunk self. In the DR they don't care.
But in Florida you can be shot dead if you make a u turn in a driveway you don't own when you accidentally make a wrong turn.

Teach your daughters to be safe. I feel terrible for her parents.
Often true
so but this reasoning, Sudiksha met trouble because her parents failed to teach her to be safe?
While it may not be anyone's business here to know, did they look into her state of being prior to this trip, this school year etc..for any red flags (no pun intended)?
YOU pp, asking again if Sudiksha had any pre-existing medical conditions that led to her drunken walk to the beach arm-in-arm with a guy she barely knows?

Over 300,000 people drown annually around the world
About 2-3 people drown weekly while on vacation in another country.
This is not rare at all. Water is very dangerous and when you combine water and alcohol - it is like drinking and driving.
excessing drinking is bad in any context.
red flag treacherous water warnings should be heeded

Anonymous wrote:This resort is a huge party resort with lots of alcohol and drugs and all night binges and multiday parties.
It seems most likely she was intoxicated and drowned. The guy was also intoxicated and has only blurry memories of what happened - probably blacked out.

Surprisingly Florida has the right idea.

No, only him.
LE specifically said he is not a suspect
Maybe because they don’t want him to flee.

Learn to swim
Know with whom you are vacationing
Secure valuables
Look for red flag warnings
Don't swim if you don't feel well
Swim cautiously regardless of swimming ability
Just as you visit any country, check if you need any shots (no not tequila shots) but get your immunizations before you leave if you need.
Be cautious of limitless alcohol
Check in with people with whom you are vacationing
Others?
Is this list just for this resort in Punta Cana? All of DR? What about Ocean City, MD? Or Blackburg, VA?
