You can snark all you want. It is a fact that once the feds get hold of something, it is almost impossible to change it. And, it does not necessarily mean it will be done well.

It's not the feds, it's a state driven initiative.

That may have been true initially. With Race to the Top requirements, it is not driven by the states any longer.

It's not the feds, it's a state driven initiative.

And the standards are pretty decent. Everyone basically is saying that. They might have a quibble here or there, but for the most part the standards in math and language arts are pretty good. Everyone's saying "The devil is in the implementation" i.e. in the locally adopted curriculum.

It's true that something that is adopted nationwide will be harder to change once it's "in" the standards. But that
's the whole point of having nation-wide standards. You aren't supposed to be able to change things here and there -- NY changing what it doesn't like, Maine changing what it doesn't like. If you did that, you would not longer have the benefit of things being standard across many states.

And that's the whole point of having Common State Standards. It's not supposed to be easy to change them.

TONS. Everyone thinks what they have to say is of utmost importance. And to them, of course, it is. But 30 of them at once? There's a reason for the 2 minute rule. People will go on and on and on and on and on if you let them. And we all have to sit there and listen.

He was asked to stop, he didn't. He was told to leave, he refused and said you will have to arrest me! So, arrest him, they did.

This individual constantly mocks others for their views, and doesn't seem to understand how absolutely dangerous it is for a parent to be taken away in handcuffs at the behest of a school board. She needs a lesson in what government control looks like. She's expecting a pension from the state, but seems to not understand that (a) it's not a guarantee and (b) she has NO recourse if it's taken away. If the state goes bankrupt, it goes bankrupt.
