I would say every club operates the same basic way. They will pick the best girls that tryout for their team. Being on a team that is part of an alliance, partnership, agreement (whatever you want to call it) doesn't promise you a spot on the team but it does give exposure prior to any outside girls showing up. At the end of the day, they are going to try and take the best players that show up to the tryouts/ID sessions. Of course there is "politics" (like with anything else in life), coach preferences, etc... Not every kid that doesn't make "the team" is because of politics, sometimes the kid just isn't good enough yet, but parents rarely ever can admit that part, it always has to be some other reason.

DD’s from one of VDA’s partner clubs and made VDA at U13. Her team has VSA, PWSI, and out of network teammates from all over Virginia. VDA appears to take the best players available regardless of club affiliation. I liked this but many parents did not when the team was put together. Parents were trying to work politics in the tryout process and it did not work out for them.

DD loves the club and coaches. You should email the staff instead of coming to DCUM where posters will anonymously bash whatever club, league, or coach is being discussed.

“Behind the pack” in a ranking. Does that matter? Not a VDA parent but wondering why anyone would use an app to pick their DD’s team.

The SYC 2013 team ranks among the top three in the DMV region. They recently traveled to Florida for the GA East Regionals and had a fantastic experience. With the recent changes in the GA and the positive momentum building, the 2013s SYC team are expected to stay together, similar to the successful 2012 SYC team. Furthermore, all SYC teams from U9 to U12 are currently among the best in the DMV.

What types of players fit into their system? Any particular gaps that need to be filled? Where do the GA teams train?

Girls that are bigger and faster than everyone else at age 7 and have already started developing themselves. Much like most younger teams that are good (winning).

So they play kickball too? Is McLean the only 2013G team in the area that isn’t all about big and fast?

mclean plays kickball as well.

EVERY team does this at big tournaments/important matches. It's very easy to play out the back when you're far superior to the other team, but when push comes to shove, this always happens. Also, why is this a bad thing? You should have different strategies for different opponents.

My DD’s coach will not allow the GK or defenders to play the ball over the midfield. It looks great when they’re playing lesser teams and it’s brutal on the defenders when playing significantly better teams, but they don’t stop trying. Instead, they lose the game and get better at building out. I cannot remember a single keeper punt all fall.
