Although the act existed before that, the word did not.
Honestly this whole discussion about genocide is a trick to turn our attention away from the DEATH and DESTRUCTION Israel is inflicting.
Have any of you been to the Bekaa valley? I (a Jew!) travelled there in 2003. I took public transportation everywhere (they had a great mini bus system) . No one was anything but lovely to me. The land was beautiful. The antiquities plentiful. The food amazing.
My friend’s in laws live there. Why? They are not Hezbollah. But the Lebanese banking system froze assets in the banks a year or so ago and they no longer have access to a lifetime of saving for retirement. So they sold their apartment in Beirut and bought a cheaper place in the countryside. Their new town is getting bombed. They are well educated, non extremists.
Israel is lying when they say they are targeting Hezbollah only.
Israel is lying when they said they are attacking as defense.
Israel has been evacuating residents from the north since June. The Lebanese have been predicting war since.
The attack is premeditated murder.
Of course Hamas committed atrocities. Of course Hezbollah should not fire into Israel. But what Israel is doing to Gaza and Lebanon is horrible. And why we call that out is that our tax dollars are funding it.
Arabs are not the enemy.
Persians are not the enemy.
Muslims are not the enemy.
Extremist are the enemy and they reside in Israel too.

Was the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima a genocide?
According to a previous poster, if the population has increased, it’s not a genocide

That’s frankly ludicrous.
55,000 Palestinians—civilians and soldiers—have died since 1948.
That’s awful. It honestly is.
But it’s not even close to genocide.
The Palestinian population has grown by leaps and bounds during that time.
Lol what are you smoking? Over 55k have died since 10/7.
No. 40,000 have died in Gaza.
Another 15k are missing and have not been found. Did they tap their heels like Dorothy and get to Tel Aviv? You do the math
Even if you say 65,000 have died since 1948, that’s still not even close to a genocide.
The Palestinian population has grown 5x in that timeframe.
6,407 Palestinians died from Jan 1, 2008 to Sept 30, 2023.
So your estimate is really low if you think only 65k have died since 1948. Estimates ranging from 41k-80k have died in the current war. Rumor is Israel and Hamas are underreporting the casualties for political reasons
Why would Hamas underreport casualties?
Because Gazans are blaming them for the war and angry with them. Hamas and Israel have reasons to divert to Lebanon and keep power for as long as they can. My guess is the Lebanon expodition is the Gaza Israel ceasefire done quietly and without formality. Once again, Lebanon gets pulled into their mess
lol

I’m Curious on what the qualifications are for genocide
Were German Americans and civilians actually residing in Germany pondering such things during WWII, trying every last dirty trick in the book to run out the clock and distract attention away from the atrocities of Nazi Germany.
I wonder.

The suffering of innocents in Gaza is real, horrific, and heart-breaking. But it's not genocide. A genocide is a deliberate intent to wipe a people off the face of the earth. Think of Russia kidnapping children from Ukraine and taking them to Russia, so that the children forget the Ukrainian language and culture and grow up believing that Ukraine is just a part of Russia, and not an independent country and people. That's a part of a genocide.
I have friends of Armenian descent who have been trying, without much success, to have the slaughter of a million Armenians during WWI to be declared a genocide.
There is a genocide occurring now--in Sudan. It is the systematic killing of the Darfuri people, since 2003. The hunger there is worse than in Gaza.
