Posting bc of how daunting this process can be for the A/B student. He’s at a W school among the competitive high achievers, and it can be easy to feel like you haven’t a chance. So we made sure to visit lots of potential targets to get excited about his options.
He’s very happy with how things have turned out and we’re going to a few admitted students days to make a final decision. He’s still waiting on a couple, but so far in at:
CU Boulder
Ohio State
Penn State
Pitt
UMass Amherst
Syracuse
WPI
RIT

The unqualified admits are not in the engineering program. Cal, UCLA, UCD, UCSD etc all have difficult weeder classes in math, chemistry and physics. The remedial students fail and end up in majors far away from STEM.
Cal is excellent for engineering but honestly it’s better for neurodivergent, truly obsessed types, grinders and excellent cheaters. It’s very cut throat, and you have to watch out for sabotage. It can be too stressful and depressing for many kids.

Either is great. I prefer the Southeast. My kid really hoped to go to Georgia Tech. Congrats on the acceptance!
Is UCB, UC Berkeley?
