I have started taking some steps to prepare and cut back exposure to large crowds, but also haven't cancelled our spring break travel plans. So, I have a question for epidemiologists and others who have spent more time reading up on COVID-19. (And I really want to ask a question, not start a fight.) Should I be viewing this differently than, say, an aggressive flu year when we know that the vaccine was not well matched?

Fascinating story about how, using closed circuit cameras on a long distance bus, Chinese researchers tracked 7 people who got infected from one carrier riding the bus.

"The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 can linger in the air for at least 30 minutes and travel up to 4.5 metres – further than the “safe distance” advised by health authorities around the world, according to a study by a team of Chinese government epidemiologists."

Wouldn’t this mean that if a plane flight had infected people, we would expect lots of additional infected people by the time the plane landed?

So the virus is highly contagious.
But if there are cases in the community..
Don’t worry. It is not going to spread.
It only spreads in Korea, Iran in Italy.
Check what country you are in.

They are really trying to downplay it. If there are no tests then it's just a cold! But don't spread it to someone vulnerable....
Are they trying to calm the economy, or tourism, or what?

Splunk held its big annual conference (2,000+ attendees) at the convention center starting the day after AIPAC ended. I was there and was puzzled by the lack of hand sanitizer and the help-your-self snack bars using scoops touched by everyone who then used their hands to eat their nuts/pretzels/etc.
Here we go...
