because they signed up

as for Jim Abdo: beginning your testimony with noting that you worked really hard and that's why you can send your kids to Maret -- ugh. get over yourself.

Abdo - a quintessential DC insider real estate developer who knows all about the contracting and permitting processes - should surely know that the current contract does not conform to the District's laws for private-public partnerships. Including public disclosure requirements, cost-benefit analysis, and public tender offerings.

You can read the regulations regarding PPPs here: https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/titles/2/chapters/2A/

Why are there so many people testifying from Maret?

Jim Abdo: "The city has an obligation to honor its contract with Maret." What in the world is he talking about? The city had no contractual obligation whatsoever to extend the deal.

Maret Head of School, Marjo Talbott, told Councilmember Mary Cheh when asked about how they'd collaborate with Hardy Middle School:

"We're not here to negotiate against ourselves"

Damn. Flame her.

Margo Talbot is whining about the petition from public school families.

Talbot: "We have not gone out and made public pleas, like petitions. We have not hired outside consultants to manage this."
Cheh: "Well, to be fair, I'm gotten a zillion emails from you and your families. So you can't argue that you're not organized."

Evans yielding his time to Talbot. What a surprise!

LOL an African-American alumni from Maret is claiming that families from Hardy are "utilizing back channels to City Council members and journalists" and in doing so they are exercising "the height of privilege"

She is very offended by online posts stating that Maret is "elitist"

Maret will back out when Attorney General Racine gets involved. Reps from the AG's office are apparently attending/monitoring the hearing. The AG's job is to enforce the city laws and the contract between DPR & Maret does not conform to city regulations. Once the AG gets digging, my guess is that Maret won't want more to publicized.

Maret is going to lose this. They are now getting into DPR ignoring contracting laws and DPR's own policies. The Council is pretty hostile to the Maret witnesses. Jack Evans was fairly muted and isn't even pushing for Maret that hard.

This is going to be bad for Maret.

That is in no way equatable to the use of existing public resources by a small few.

Vanity bike riders? Private bike trail? Lay off the meth, dude, and stop spouting such nonsense about an area and an issue of which you apparently know next to nothing.

I love bike trails, but you have to admit there is something galling ("gaull-ing"?) about spandex-clad middle-aged lawyers intimidating walkers and runners because they think they're in the Tour de Friggin' France.

No kidding and that's exactly why it's ridiculous for people like those behind this very silly "Save Don't Pave" campaign to claim that the Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) makes an improved Palisades Trolley Trail redundant, all the while complaining about the behavior of CCT users.
