Not all of their teams are going there. Their first teams are NOT. Barca is 1/8 the size of big clubs in the area so it makes sense some of their 2nd/3rd teams would start in ODSL. The pool isn’t as deep. There are many very talented players. They just don’t have the depth/numbers and they will develop what they have. Some of those younger teams very well will move up in the future.

I am a Barca parent and I don't think that paying $3K+ to be on an ODSL team (at Barca or at any other club) is a wise investment.

Would you rather stay in EDP and lose every single game as many of the Barca teams did in the fall? Those teams clearly weren’t ready for that league. It doesn’t serve the player development well to have lopsided games in either direction. I am also a Barca parent. I don’t view my $3k as an investment in anything. It’s a fee and if the training, coaches, facilities, methods are good quality then I could care less which league the team plays in if the games are competitive. As players develop they will join the EDP teams, play with older age groups, face tougher teams in internal competitions and tournaments, so plenty of opportunities if ODSL isn’t enough of a challenge.

I agree that one Barca protagonist seems to be related to the DA trolling going on in other threads. The pattern of anti DA posts coinciding with revivals in this thread have happened time and time again. I believe the poster outed themselves in this thread worth their non-sequitir rant against US Soccer in a post here several months back.

That said, the comments on ODSL are very relevant concerns and not trolling. There are parents at Barca who aren't happy that their investment has resulted in ODSL births for their children, who were playing in NCSL or more competitive environments in the past. The other clubs mentioned who field teams in ODSL typically charge much less for teams that compete in ODSL, a fraction of the cost at Barca. These are facts and a definite concern for some people.

The Barca teams in ODSL get the exact same training, coaches and development as their teams in EDP. Both play in the same number of tournaments and games (albeit against different levels of competition). So in either case you get the same product for your $3k, why is only one worth it? Because one kid is a better athlete? You don’t need to be an elite athlete to love playing soccer. Teams playing against appropriate level competition seems like a good idea.

I think the typical assumption is that ODSL teams are getting less quality training and coaching, and for many clubs that may be the case. But once you realize Barca doesn’t run their program that way, that all teams receive the same quality of training and attention, regardless of skill level, then you don’t really care which league the competing teams are from. Barca parents who have kids on the ODSL teams already know they don’t have elite players, but their kids love to play soccer and they are glad to give them a high quality experience

ODSL isn’t worth $1200 in travel soccer either. ODSL is bad at nearly any price

It’s too much money for odsl for anything u12 or over. u11 and younger, it’s a discussion.

You can certainly debate whether it is a good thing or not, but the original post took no position on whether it is a positive or negative.
