That sucks that the club lost so many coaches. Any specific reason or just personal reasons. Herndon has always had competitive teams on the boys side.


I think that person is exaggerating by saying "so many". There is one boys coach who left, who was coaching three teams. And I think one other coach who left. So that's two total. Maybe PP knows of more, but I would be curious to hear who specifically because it feels like they are just being hyperbolic.

a hefty charge to all the parents if not covered by the club.
Not really. $150 to rent the space divided by the number of kids. Maybe $100-$150 bucks per kid over the winter.


Yeah it’s definitely possible if you have a team manager or coach who looks into it, books the space, and collects the money from everyone. That last part is the pain in the butt if you don’t have responsive parents on your kid’s team.

Not at Herndon, but at another club; when that club was not offering indoor winter practices, the team chose to hold indoor sessions independently, and the parents contributed to cover the cost. That may be what’s happening with some of the teams currently practicing indoors.


That is correct. I too initially that certain clubs were covering the cost of the indoor facility rental for a practice or two. But, I've talked to friends from other clubs and it was their parents that all chipped in the cover the cost so the team could practice indoors.

My kid’s team was practicing outside twice a week until the snow hit, except for a day or two where it was extremely cold. They also did an indoor league, which was an extra cost but pretty small when divided among all the families.

It stinks that the fields have been unusable for this long, but I think you have to just take matters into your own hands if you want your kid to keep developing. Mine has been doing some indoor things with a friend’s team (for an added cost) and dropping in on some other indoor classes. It’s annoying to be spending the extra money but hoping it’s only for another week or so.

The Sportsplex field rentals are pricy. I don't think its realistic to expect a club to rent enough fields to cover all their teams to practice indoors and I would not blame our team manager for not wanting to pay for it himself and then rely on people to pay him back.

So to summarize this org since november: no one is practicing indoors, no teams played ANY winter games let alone the paid-for 3-4 winter games (even though the weather was doable in december and january for games) and despite all-club spamming from HYS, no non-relatives felt moved to pay for 3rd graders to go to Spain for spring break.

If you're a Herndon parent, you may be able to find some space at Dulles Sportsplex. I imagine it is full but it never hurts to ask. It is pretty expensive for a short time though.
