I don't like names that keep an individual a child. A colt is a juvenile horse. Your son is going to be 50 one day.

I think the associations (minus the judgment) are pretty accurate. The question is whether the parents are OK or even enthusiastic about those associations.

One of my kids has a name that a least one friend deemed "Southern nerd." I could see how she got there, but I am OK with any Southern nerd vibes the name gives off.

This is one of those names which is ok... but it has strong associations (to me, a deep south white boy whose family attends church on Sunday and then follows that up with a tailgate party to watch the big game). I think that the person is a Republican. I also think of the gun.

That being said, I think it is a "normal" name unlike some of the more 2012 names out there, like Jax or Jaxyn.

I know a family with boys Boden, Landen, Colton and Jackson. Not enough eye rolls in the world.

Colton is worse than Colt. Neither are good.

I think its a little rednecky or one of those names that some moms think sound sophisticated or cool-like Jax or Brayden.

I met a kid in a rural farming area named Rope. Colt isn’t as bad as that, but it’s in the same gene pool.

But that's actually his nickname. His parents named him Daniel. Colt is fine as a nickname.

Just reminds me of Colt McCoy, the quarterback. But Colt is not is given name, its is nickname. You could give your son a different name and jsut call him Colt.

There are some famous Colts. Colt Ford is a famous musician who fuses the country and rap genres.
