Sure, sure, Loudoun based kids are all looking forward to driving by multiple ECNL clubs to practice in Springfield. Current teams, U15 and older, will grind it out but what rising U13 Loudoun based kid is going to consider FCV moving forward?

How many 08's and 09's stay at FCV knowing Springfield is the likely location this time next year?

Even losing just a couple of subs can erode a team. And all of this while FCV is still playing in a mostly unproven league.

There are kids who won't make ECNL rosters. Just being in Springfield my net them SYC players who want a higher league and don't want to practice in McLean

You just described how FCV dies. "There are kids who won't make ECNL rosters" Correct, FCV will attract kids that didn't make a ECNL roster further weakening GA and the FCV brand.

that's who they attract now and they do fine. Revolution is a few steps down from GA, so if GA is harmful to a brand, what would you consider NCSL to be?

I saw that comment from a previous poster and that person is living in fantasy land. A regulation sized turf field with lighting is in the $1.7 - $2.0m range. That’s *one* field. You do the math.

Yeah, that sounds much more on point. Not to mention parking facilities and the stands and food/beverage facilities.

it all requires upkeep. The question is how much revenue does it really generate vs just a regular field with lights

Irrigation and irrigation maintenance, constant mowing, fall and spring treatments, line painting, fragile in weather.

which is nice if you compare it to grass, but what about turf fields without the grandstand?

What about them? Not sure what you are asking.

They have a lot to maintain vs. just a turf field with lights. The question is whether they will be able to generate enough income to maintain the property plus service the debt that they took on to buy it. They aren't exactly a huge club

There’s no debt to the new owners. And it’s hard to be HUGE when you were founded 3 years ago and your neighbors have been around since the late 70’s.

However, it is noteworthy to observe they’ve gone from one 1 team in Fall 2018 to fielding 30 or so in Fall 2021. NCSL and EDP are their current leagues. They have a partnership with GA for their most talented female players and one male player has already signed with DC United.

Gotta give credit to them. Who’s to know what they’ll look like in another 3 years? They’ve effectively kicked out those other clubs from their complex so I doubt they’ll stop growing.

They do seem to be squeezing out FCV other than top girls GA teams. I am sure they will also get Loudoun players not on the ECNL or Red teams. As far as LFC, ODFC, a bit of Sterling and maybe a bit of SWA they could / are taking from them as well it would seem. Plenty of room for two larger soccer clubs in Loudoun (LS and VAR) with FCV still serving the narrow boutique top notch girls market. Youth soccer clubs don’t need to be competitive from a business perspective. They can coexist. The real goal is to teach the game and help build healthy and confident young men and women, and for a limited number create avenues and opportunities to play in college or in the rare instance, beyond.

I honestly think why not just merge lfc and sterling with VAR like work something out and make an alliance. Then have fcv united teams along with them but have the fcv ga teams a top notch program like skyline is for soca. I like the idea of the area around Leesburg being a very strong soccer attraction

LOL this is funny.

Revolution is not interested in mergers when it is simply easier to squeeze the clubs out. FCV and Barca are For Profit clubs and they just got thrown out into the open County field market where they can't compete for fields against Loudoun
I'm not saying they are interested I'm saying it would be the smartest option

Nope, it is easier to poach the coach of the best team the clubs have and the coaches bring the players. The little club loses their best players as well as revenue all without having to do some stupid merger and writing some stupid boiler plate press release talking about how "their goals align and it is terrific to be working with other "like minded" soccer people."

Their main competition for Revolution now is Loudoun Soccer and like was posted earlier both clubs are going to take full advantage of the opportunity to drive FCV out of Loudoun.

Kids who felt trapped at FCV will now have the "excuse" of I'm not traveling to Annandale for practice to try out for Loudoun or VDA ECNL.

Those clubs are niche clubs. VRSC might swallow them up/make their programs untenable, but they are here to compete with Loudoun Soccer. VRSC, without Evergreen, had already easily surpassed LFC as a club and a good argument could be made that they already surpassed FCV, since VRSC has a full boys program and more total teams in Loudoun. VRSC now has a better facility than Loudoun Soccer, so why shouldn’t their goal be to challenge Loudoun Soccer to be the biggest club in Loudoun?

This is pretty much what I just said above.

Not only that but Revolution hired coaches away from both FCV as well as Loudoun. that will continue to happen as they grow but targeting top Loudoun coaches from here on out.

Both Revolution and Loudoun Soccer will be in a heated race to gobble up any remaining County turf fields pushing FCV to unlit grass fields. FCV United practicing a Bles without the option for lights will kill that program off in short order.

Evergreen was the last club agnostic non county complex in Loudoun. FCV's for profit status puts them at a significant competitive disadvantage for county fields space.

FCV knew this was coming and this why the Villarreal "merger" happened. FCV no longer controls its own destiny beyond one very expensive field in the St. James. They will be surrounded by ECNL clubs in Springfield while competing in a new inferior league. Their player pool via VIVA will be poor and knowing all of this ECNL clubs will not throw FCV a life preserver.

The best Loudoun players will now go to Loudoun, VDA or McLean for ECNL, primarily Loudoun and they will no longer give FCV a second thought. We'll find out this spring how many TSJ bags are on ECNL sideline tryouts. I predict many, starting with kids who don't start.

They also have a white elephant to pay for. Evergreen wasn’t for sale because it was generating reliable profits

I could see Latin players getting stuck with the less experienced coaches on silver, white, and gray teams going over there. I don't see top players leaving though

FCV is done in Loudoun beyond the United teams and the United teams will likely collapse if GA moves to Springfield. Nothing is stopping VA Revolution from using County fields as well if they expand their rec program. What you are seeing here is a full on war with Loudoun Soccer. Revolution can grow because they have field certainty that Loudoun can no longer influence. If they grow then they can be on level footing for county field space with Loudoun soccer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Revolution in ECNL within 5 years from now. They are going to be a huge thorn in Loudoun Soccer's side.
