Close contact is not necessary for delta transmission. They have found that simply walking unmasked past a person with delta is enough for transmission. The info I saw out of Australia estimated 5-10 seconds of passing contact.

I think that the has to be mask wearing and distancing for any vaccinated person with symptoms. Frankly, at some point, even with a positive test vaccinated people should be able to wear masks and continue with their activities if they are well enough to do so. Ten day quarantines for vaccinated people aren't reasonable unless there is conclusive evidence that there is a serious risk of transmission for that long (which we don't have).

The Provincetown outbreak involved a very specific population who went there to party and were likely engage in very close contact, so it does not reflect transmission under usual circumstances. High quality masks would be much better than isolation for the vaxxed. The study showed similar viral loads in vaccinated symptomatic positive people and non-vaxxed positive people, but that is based on a nasal swab, which does not necessarily equate to equal likelihood of transmission.

Most counties stopped trying to contact trace in winter of 2020 when it first got out of control. I don’t know if any have resumed. Even back in Nov of 2020 it took a week for Fairfax county to call me about my exposure. Luckily I was already quarantining.

+1. At some point it’s the most at risk people that need to protect themselves. They need to stay at home, avoid crowds and indoor places. We can’t hide for ever. If you are at risk, wear your masks, don’t meet up with friends, etc.

The immunocompromised are probably not going to have a safe world for a while. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. I say this as someone with an immunocompromised family member. We don't make policies for 3-5% of the population.
