As we approached middle school for our oldest and Kindergarten for our littlest, we thought it was a good time to move to a school with better student/teacher ratios. My son's doing some summer classes in person at the school over the summer and loves the way they teach and the individual attention. So hopefully, his tenure there will be the same!

Our school is the exact opposite. We're about 20% over capacity to begin with but right now and people are coming back by the droves. Not sure we have room for all the new students. I'm hopping more of the people who are unhappy no matter what MCPS does stay private. They're a drain on the system anyway.
That doesn’t even make any sense. Did you get your critical thinking skills from MCPS?
Families that live in MoCo pay taxes that support public schools, whether they use them or not.
So, families that pay for private are actually paying to support a service that they are not even using. I would not call that a ‘drain’.

The PP is likely an MCPS teacher or administrator. They want us to make their job easier by getting rid of the squeaky wheels.
DP. I'm not an MCPS teacher or administrator or anything else except a MCPS parent. I would like to get rid of the whiny wheels.

Me too. So tired of the whining! My kid's teachers did an amazing job going above and beyond this past year to make a hard situation a little better. They have my genuine gratitude.

How so? By paying taxes that support your kids overcrowded school while simultaneously paying tuition for their kids to get a private school education? Wait, who’s a drain on the system again?
I agree with PPP those whiney Karnes are always demanding special treatment. It would save so much time and money if they went private.

the 2nd was a typo. These are rising first graders who she is teaching as if they are about to start K.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:We loved our focus school but lost faith in mcps this year and are going private. We homeschooled last year. So thankful we did too but I don’t wa t to do it again. Saw my kids first grade teacher last week ( DD is going into 4th) and she said the kids hardly learned anything last year. She is doing summer school now for rising 1st graders and is teaching them K basics all over because some of these rising 2st graders have never actually been in school. Her goal for the end of July is having them write their name and know and write their letters.so while I think some kids did well, The majority did not, those parents who said it was great don’t really know what they’re talking about.
Working backward:
August 2021 going into second grade
June 2021 finish first grade (virtually or in school, depending)
March 2021 back in school for first grade, depending on their adults' decisions
August 2020 start first grade, virtually
June 2020 finish kindergarten, virtually
March 2020 Maryland governor closes the schools
August 2019 start kindergarten, normally
So why would some of these second graders have never actually been in school?
