Actually the point is that it makes it easier and more convenient for people in DC. Just not people who expect to be able to drive fast and park close for free.

It has already been stated that the point is to make it more inconvenient as a matter of policy. You may get what your wish with the unintended consequence of making more convenient suburban office more attractive precisely at the same time that (and I do have a citation - Brookings) growth is DC is decelerating as suburban growth picks up.

Specifically, to make it more inconvenient to drive fast and park close for free.

DC will never be able to compete with the car-dependent suburbs for space where it's convenient to drive fast and park close for free, and shouldn't try.

Provide your citation, please? I'd like to see what it actually says.

You are sad. Spent days making up and posting “facts” without basis. I give you one piece of real data and you demand my citation. Well, I will gladly give it to you. But you’re seriously pathetic. I’ll take data, you can have made up stats and contrived, tendentious arguments.

“Like other major cities, Washington, D.C. benefitted from early-decade gains as young-adult millennials flocked to cities due to stagnating post-Great Recession housing and labor markets in suburbs and smaller-sized places.

While it is true that early-decade gains in the District and other cities shrank as suburban growth picked up, those early growth levels propped up total decade growth for most cities.”

The thing that I think you don’t understand is that private companies make a lot of arbitrary decisions based on the preferences of their senior management. If a current DC based company has their entire C-suite relocate to Fairfax, what are the odds that they will be happy commuting every day if the DC government follows your insane advice to make that journey as difficult as possible for them?

I would also add that current trends will also push more Fed agencies into the burbs. The push to move FBI to Greenbelt has been renewed (although Warner and Kaine think they can get it moved to Springfield). DC govt used to be supportive because “tax revenue”, I doubt they will share that view when the time comes. It’s only a matter of time before Fannie Mae early exits their short term lease on 15th Street.

All of the chest pumping is really funny to me because you are truly missing the secular trend. Enjoy your bike lanes and decelerating growth.

Dog parks, too. Bike lanes and dog parks -- essential for entitled white people.

^^^sorry - I really, really hope you WON'T respond that Black and Brown people don't ride bikes, because that's just plain not true.

That's because bike lanes tend to get built in the whiter/more affluent areas (where the affluent Black and Brown people who live there also use them). In the non-white/low-income areas, there aren't many bike lanes, and low-income Black and Brown people have to ride on the sidewalk.

I really, really, really hope you respond that Black and Brown people don't ride bikes, because that's just plain not true.

“inconvenient” to PP means “I can’t drive 50 mph downtown in a major urban center, and I have to actually look out for bikes and pedestrians.”

Awesome. That’s great for you, your choices and preferences.

and unfortunately for you, the choices and preferences of DC are to promote transit in all forms, including bikes, rather than cars only.

you’re so fixated on car commutes as the highest and best transit priority. even though they are the minority of trips into DC. btw the point of bike lanes’ impact on traffic is to slow traffic down to a safe speed. auto fatalities are increasing every year.
