I went back in January and STILL understand that I don’t get to say that ‘I’m not like everyone else’. I went back early and understand why people are mad at teachers. And no, - my single act of returning does not exempt me from the terrible actions of teachers this year. Nor can I distinguish myself from teachers as a whole. So yup- I’m pumped in with the zoom bandits and cry babies. It’s sucks.



Maybe you should quit as the ultimate act of protest.

Not on DCUM. On this site, summer school is for acceleration, socialization, and child care.

Then you just hire a high school kid for the rest of the day. Saves you a half day of care.

So... so you think teachers can’t have their own thoughts and ideas outside of the teachers union? Oh boy..... I highly doubt you’re a teacher but if you are... I really think you need to find a new profession.

Even if PP was a teacher (I also doubt it), they should speak for themselves. Due to my health condition, returning in person was not an option. I am grateful for MCEA’s work on behalf of staff who were high risk. I won’t be back in the fall and I’m okay with that.

The only people I know why normally teach summer school are newer teachers. It doesn't make financial sense for older teachers since it pays less than they normally make plus many of them would have to pay for camps/babysitter, etc. This year, not even the new teachers at my school will teach summer school. They are exhausted and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them quit at the end of the year.

Next year will be better than this year. Enough with the drama. If you go into it expecting to the awful than it will be, for you. Things are opening up and resuming more normalcy. I’m looking forward to being off Zoom and directly teaching again.

Teachers want more info about content, expectations, module/lesson planning support/time. MCPS just didn't try hard enough to sell this to teachers with the info we need. The money got our attention, but the complete lack of any info and promises put off a lot of staff.
