We’d rather prepare. My husband, a huge leftist, was off on a bike ride blissfully unaware. I filled up his truck for him, as well as mine last night. I also told my adult kids to do same and all three heeded my advice. Husband has learned not to laugh after I bought extra toilet paper and got some masks before the Covid crisis really hit, due to the buzz. He went through almost all the toilet paper despite me asking him to leave that case in reserve because he thought I was ‘crazy’. Then the crisis hit and I realized what happened (he lied about not using it). He had to get up at 5 AM and get online at a store and STILL got the last 12 pack. Came home shell-shocked. Good think I hid those masks. I also got a hand sanitizer dispenser and put it out in the garage.

I have a small business and managed to get another case and a case of paper towels a couple weeks later through a janitorial supply service only businesses had access to.

Never change liberals and hope to hell you have a “Trump supporter” to (literally) CYA in a crisis

You sound like a real peach. Your poor husband.

My mother is as liberal as they come, and she is the one who texted me 2 days ago about making sure my gas tank was full. She is also the one who was texting me about Covid being a matter if when, not if, back in January, and stocking up on masks and sanitizing wipes. It's not a political thing. Some people just have more prepper tendencies than others.

Let's be clear. This is not prepping:

1. Filling up the gas tank after pipeline is hacked.
2. Buying extra toilet paper in a pandemic.
3. Buying masks when the pandemic starts.

That is panic shopping.

This is prepping:

1. Buying a bike because you know energy shortages happen.
2. Stocking up on food when there is no crisis because you know a crisis can happen at any time.
3. Gardening, because a crisis can happen at any time.
etc.

How is #3 on your panic shopping list “panic shopping?” Most Americans didn’t have masks on hand before covid? Stores didn’t even sell masks. Then, you couldn’t go in any store or healthcare facility or even outside without a mask? That’s not “panic shopping.”

Yes, it is panic shopping. Drug stores have always carried surgical masks. Experts have been saying that we were long overdue for a pandemic for years.

Drug stores carry “surgical masks?” For all those home surgeons? Why would people need survival masks at home? You are just being obtuse. And I never saw “surgical masks” in any drugstores. Give me a break.

actually, they existed. for people with allergies or people who wanted to wear a mask in public transportation or similar reasons. my kids has been wearing them for years, sine 2nd grade (she is 6th grade now) when she travels. my DH use them when has to mow the lawn

Prior to the pandemic, every hardware store sold multiple styles of masks to blocks dusts and for painting. I had a small box of five N-95s in my tool closet because I used them for painting projects. All of this was readily available, if you were indeed a prepper or just someone who fixed their own home or mowed their own lawn.

Exactly. This isn’t a bond movie. Hackers haven’t gotten control of the actual pipeline, Colonial could let the gas flow they just don’t have a handle on billing and probably worried about contracts getting out on the wild.

Hence my recommendation is they fix it or get temporarily nationalized. That will provide the incentive for future businesses to secure their systems if they have national interests.

At this point, I don't care if the hackers reveal the data. Just turn on the gas.

Apparently Continental is keeping the entire system shutdown so they can try to sniff out the hackers' backdoor and not have their data released. And they just announced that they won't pay the ransom.

So yeah, I don't care if Continental gets screwed. Put the Feds in charge of the pipeline for a temporary period and get the fuel moving. Continental can deal with the fallout later. But one single company's data is not more important than the entire economy of the Eastern seaboard.

It's time to stop messing around and deferring national security to the private sector. I want a muscular response to both this company and the hackers.

Yes, that Koch, the one behind the big dark money, the Federalist Society, and other anti-government, anti-regulation initiatives. They didn’t want the gubmint telling them how to run their business or to secure their cyber infrastructure and look here we are. They’ll probably make money on this whole debacle while people get screwed. So, if you’re going to assign blame, why don’t you look at the people who refused to make the proper investments in infrastructure to keep roving e-pirate gangs from taking them down.

+infiniti

There probably wasn't even a hack. They just shut it down to cause this.

You have no idea what these pipelines do.

I know they destroy the environment. That’s all I NEED to know.

That’s the influence of the mainstream media, telling people to blame Joe. People are stupid, and they buy it.

Those move oil. Not gasoline.

Same thing though. Oil, gas. Biden was right to shut it down, and he’s right to not lift a finger for this colonial pipeline mess, either. It’s only affecting mostly red states, so I don’t care if it ever gets fixed.

Sounds like your H is the only one in your household with a brain, since he rides a bike. You’re just as guilty as all the other hoarders.

What does he see in you ?
