If it is a power grab, then what was splitting virginia into two, or making two Dakotas? Or holding Merrick Garland's nomination while slamming Barret's through?

Please.

A little bit of history would help you.
The northwestern portion of Virginia splitted from the state because they didn't want to secede from the union. They didn't want to be traitors. They chose to remain within the union. That portion became a state (West Virginia) at the beginning of the civil war.

DP. Similarly, the ND and SD separate statehood had NOTHING to do with aggregating power for conservatives. PP is illiterate.

Ironic, you calling me illiterate - I am the PP you are quoting, and you couldn't be more wrong.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/dakota-split-states-senators/

I mean, in addition to a three second google, there are books written about the admission of the upper plains to the US as a so-called power grab.

But sure, let's keep denying 690,000 US citizens who pay per capital more in taxes than about half the country, and who have served in every war and who are a net positive in tax revenue to the US treasury, a voice in how that money is appropriated.

Your source certainly did not refute my assertion that it had nothing to do with aggregating conservative power. You’re even more illiterate than I thought.

Retrocession means it was originally a part of Maryland.

Time to return DC to Maryland.

Thank you.

Maryland...doesn't want DC. Stop suggesting it, it isn't a solution.

How about DC retrocede to Wyoming instead.

The obvious problem there is that the land never belonged to Wyoming. Typically land reverts to the original owner when it’s no longer being used by the federal government for the intended purpose. Then DC can split off into its own state using the normal process. Should be easy to get that started if Maryland doesn’t want the land and increased tax base.

Wrong and stop calling people illiterate when you’re ignorant. "In 1889 and 1890, Congress added North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho and Wyoming - the largest admission of states since the original thirteen. This addition of twelve new senators and eighteen new electors was a deliberate strategy of late-19th-century Republicans to stay in power."

Edited. This is the dumbest power grab the democrats have no chance of trying to jam through. They should focus on what they can grab through budget reconcilliation before they lose the house in less than 2 yrs

Sadly, I am not encouraged by what I read in this thread.

This has been going on for decades. But the decline of American news media has made it possible at large scale. It really is the case that Fox and talk radio and Facebook have made it possible for billionaires to con half the country.
