Instead the state created a drive in site at Six flags that only those people rich enough to have a car and 2-4 hours or spare time or leave can get thru.

We were there yesterday, most people are white and under the age of 65. MoCo is still trying to get through the enormous about of seniors who live here.

This.
Leisure World has more people than some counties.

So strange they didn't just create a drive-thru site at Leisure World.

This would’ve been a brilliant idea. I wonder why Montgomery County didn’t think of this.

The problem isn't getting Leisure World residents vaccinated. They actually had more opportunities than other elderly people in the county (who don't all live in Leisure World). It's the number of vaccines available in Montgomery County vs the number of elderly people.

So people here want the county to give them the vaccines instead of to older people?

MoCo is not slow in delivering shots. They take a week to administer the ones they get each week. They literally could not do this faster. They just aren't giving them to YOU because there are still older people who need them.

MoCo has 2 county-run sites, both at schools. Those schools said they need the space back by 4/1 since schools are reopening.

MoCo proposes using Montgomery College Germantown campus as a state mass vax site. The state is focused on geographic equity and there is already one for the DC region of MD, at Six Flags. The state's focus is opening up sites to serve Western MD and Eastern Shore, since there is nothing there. The state won't open up more sites other than those, until they get more doses.

MoCo and MD meet about the Germantown site. MD offers to help MoCo with some logistics like laptops, wifi and stuff like that. MoCo takes this to mean it'll be a state-run mass vax site. MD does not. Note no paperwork was signed.

So the Germantown site is a county-run site, replacing the 2 existing county-run sites that will close on 3/31.

As for the vaccine being available to all adults by 4/27, that's true for _state-run_ vaccine sites, NOT for MoCo sites. In the name of equity, MoCo has made gettting a vaccine incredibly complicated. Just in Phase 1, there are 9 different tiers, compared to 3 in the rest of MD.

Here's the difference:

MoCo currently open for:
Phase 1A - Tier 1, Phase 1A - Tier 2, Phase 1- Tier 3, Phase 1B - Tier 1, Phase 1B - Tier 2, Phase 1B - Tier 3, Phase 1C - Tier 1 (only).

MD open for:
Phase 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A

then 3/30, MD open for:
Phase 1C, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B

In short, if you want to get a vaccine at a well-run site, sign up for the state mass vax site. You'll also be eligible sooner there.

This is true. I am eligible under state guidelines but not MoCo. I did go to a mass vax site in Baltimore. The downside is that I stood in line for 3 hours. But I have my vaccination.

Yeah, NO.

Not doing that. Nothing is worth standing in a 3 hour line, in Baltimore. No. Just no.

When I can drop by a CVS or pop-up vax site, walk up, say hello and get a shot and then be on my way in under ten minutes, that’s when I’ll get mine.

Until then, I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing the last year. It’s worked just fine so far.

+1

that's fine for you both but there are many people in MoCo who want to get the vaccine now, rather than have to wait for MoCo to deem that equity has been achieved, and only then the rest of MoCo people can get it.

Thankfully the state of MD does not care about your racial group, just your health/age group. MD phase is faster than MoCo's. Again, MoCo moves way too slowly.

Elrich sucks.

You got a vaccine from the state because the state controls the doses and sent a bunch to the mass vax sites. The county has been administering all of their doses, just not to you. I know that's frustrating, but it's also incredibly selfish and stupid to assume that because you specifically did not get an appointment that means they did a terrible job. They only get a small portion of the doses that the state has.

DP.. the county is too slow and prioritizes certain racial groups over others. That's partly the reason why MoCo residents are going to the state run sites.

All you're saying is you want your shot before older/more at risk people. MoCo prioritizes AND administers the doses it receives from the state efficiently.

LMAO you’ve really drunk the koolaid, haven’t you. Either that or an Elrich staffer.

I do agree that MoCo should have had a mass vax site weeks ago, but boy did erlich botch this.

My dh and I spent 4 hours getting to and from Six Flags yesterday, from Silver Spring. Rush hour traffic plus an hour and a half wait to get the shot. Just for one of us. The site was well run, but why wasn't a max site rolled out in the most populous country in Maryland to start with, along with the Six Flags site?

Because they are trying to reach the most hard hit communities first. Unfortunately all the wealthy Montgomery county residents swoop in and take all the appointments anyway.

MoCo is not very efficient or effective in this effort, while everyone who wants a vaccine aren't able to or going to the state site.

Yes, because a mass vax site was not placed in the most populous county, just right next door. Smh.

It would have been smatter to place vax sites in both places. While we were there yesterday, only a few POC were getting vaccinated.

But, you know, what do you expect when you have a lot of essential workers and HHS employers in MoCo who can't get the freaking vaccine any other way, but to travel to Baltimore or PG?

I believe you’re in the minority with this train of thought. I would argue they have been extremely slow and inefficient for the roll out. There are still many elderly people we’re still waiting for the county to contact them.

Good grief, why are they waiting? They should contact vaccine hunters if the can’t figure out how to make an appointment.

It's not a "train of thought" it's data presented weekly at the County Council sessions. They are administering the doses they receive from the state. They aren't sitting on doses for the sake of equity. Claiming that they are, with no evidence, is frankly disgusting.

Yes, they use it all up, but slowly. Too concerned with equity rather than just getting as many people vaccinated as possible.

Vaccinate in phases with older people first, that's fine. But by using a framework that looks at race, and making sure certain racial groups get priority is hampering getting everyone vaccinated quickly.
